Same thing as I do most of the winter......taking up space in the cupboard!

In all seriousness, in summer we just crave fresher, food, more raw stuff, less cooked stuff, lighter sauces or dressings.. It makes the slow cooked, unctuous deliciousness of the folder months more special then too.

I always make my batches of meat sauce in the slow cooker, but rarely use for any thing else in the summer.

Chicken :) I just shove it in whole - no liquid. It tastes lovely, and doesn't dry out like I find it can if you use the oven. Plus it falls apart easily when you take it out so it's really easy to take off the bones.

Would like to be a bit more adventurous with the slow cooker though. Generally it's used for chicken, beef and soup. I need to branch out.

Instead of gravy stews, I do tomato stews. Spanish ones always go down well, chicken, plenty of cannellini beans, chorizo, some veg and chopped toms, yum

Pork ribs, all the BBQ flavour without the hassle

  • We had slow cooked gammon (cooked with some herbs sprinkled on it) with salad last night, it was lovely :D.

We use the slow cooker a lot for whole chicken, joints of meat, chicken thighs, sausages etc then add it to salad. After a long day you have something quick and easy to eat but feel like you have made an effort!

We usually sprinkle herbs/seasoning over the meat or sometimes put in some BBQ sauce for extra flavour. Chicken with Chorizo is good (and I don't like Chorizo!) as it adds a nice smokey, BBQ flavour.
I add a small amount of water in the bottom but it is not essential.

We love our slow cooker all year round!!! :T

Sausages? how do they come out? I thought meat in slow cookers doesn't brown?

I am going to get the cooker out again next week and start experimenting. As nice as it is in the winter to come home to a cooked meal it would be even more handy this weather as I like to go out in the evenings and when we get back there isn't much time to start cooking.
