Dog beds

Me again, with my puppy. Her bed is all flat and stuffing has gone (not sure where), so was wondering where people got their dog beds from. I want to buy one that will fit her when she's fully grown. I have been looking on the net, but dimensions of 80x50x20 etc. doesn't give me a true indication of how big a bed I actually need!

She is a staffie, what type of dimensions should I be looking at?

Money saving way! (What we do)

Go to local home shop when having sale day and get th cheapest duvet, plus a few duvet covers. Then fold to required size

Considering our dogs dont always sleep on them there was no way we were paying out the huge prices on a dog bed!

And then these can be washed and if you have a few duvet covers you can wash them more regularily. Oh and it can match your room aswell

As Kr15snw says i would go for a single duvet either folded in half.or cut it in half and sew up the open edge so you have 1 spare for when the other one goes in the wash... it is so much cheaper and they are so easy to keep clean....

I cover my duvets with a pet blanket from Wilkinsons (£5 in the pet section) then they have something fleecy that absorbs the water to cuddle into as well.

They are a thinner version of the vet bed that costs about £30 a metre in other pet stores.

Not a bad idea at all actually! Wow. Never thought of that. My dad has a basket in the loft which he says she can have, and I suppose we could just put the folded duvet in there.

I'd second using duvets as dog beds. We get Ikea's cheapest thin ones, fold to size and cover in dog blankets. If they ever get damaged/stained too badly then it's only a couple of pounds for a new one.

Everything can be chucked in the washing machine as and when needed and because the duvets are cheap and cheerful (full of man-made fibres) they dry easily.

we use a duvet too in a big blue plastic bucket of a dog bed that was offered on Freecycle - there are often dog beds on our local Freecycle so it's well worth keeping an eye out. Some dogs (ours included) really love having an edge to snuggle up against whereas others are happy with a flat bed.

The two beds she has are just flat beds, like big cushions. We paid £15 for the small one which she just about fits on. The other one we had for our last dog (my dad had started using it as a back cushion, so we took it off him :rotfl: )

BF has called me a cheapskate and wants a proper bed for her. Said a duvet in the corner of the room will look (his words) s***. Oh well, I'll let him go and pay for it then!

I use dog cages and Vet bed bought from shows (much cheaper than any shop). A cage size piece works out at about 4 quid and lasts and lasts...
Fleeces are good too and blankets.
Personally I don't like Duvets for young dogs as they tend to rip the stuffing out and eat it (too many die from this).

My pups tear duvets and eat the wadding too-I have tried all sorts of things-I now use fleece blankets layered up-cosy but easy to wash too.They are both crated at night and I have had less problems with the fleeces in there.I worry that they choke on duvet wadding.Ikea ones are cheap and also Dunelm if you have one near you??
You can also get fleeces lined with a waterproof backing that are thinner in this warmer weather,are washable and great for use in the back of the car,when transporting them.They are around £15 from pet shops or eBay.
