    Update on what is happening.
I rang Sky and got my MAC from them, never asked why or offered and deal.

Called BT this morning and after 5 mins got through to some bloke.
I said i got a letter and i asked he to clarify a few things and then i asked about getting unlimited instead of 10Gb limit and was told i can get that but it will be £16 a month but free for the 1st 6 months then £16 a month.
As the 10Gb broadband is £13 a month(free for the 1st year with offer) i said can i pay £3 to make the difference and he said no 10Gb or unlimited for £16. I mentioned the "12 free" code and he said everbody got that letter to switch and he wasn't going to budge when asked if he could do a deal if i switched from Sky to BT.
As some of you know 10Gb is nothing if you watch catch up tv or on demand from Sky.

My mum had issues with Free Sky also.

Watching a few episodes of corrie enders took her over the limit. But they didnt inform her until she was past the cancellation point. Then said stop downloading or upgrade.

I'd call Sky back. (I am biased - I work there) but you should have been offered a deal to recontract on tel and bb if calling for a MAC.

It would be cheaper to stay and keep unlimited broadband with Sky's line rental. You can get deals just ask.

You can't use 1899 though on sky line rental.
or maybe you can with their 0808 numbers...

    Thank you bublegun.

When i rang Sky for a MAC it took me longer to get through to her than it did to produce the MAC. There was no asking why i was leaving or any hint of an offer from her.
I have 20% discount on my Sky tv package at the moment which ends in 7 weeks time so maybe that was why no offers made.
I have seen on some threads on here that people are getting free line rental for a year and that you can go through Sky to get BT sports.
I dont know if i called BT again would i get a better offer or will they not budge.

Your better offers from sky will come once you are out of the tie in for TV.. Leave the Mac code to expire (since the contract carries on if not used in time). Then look to go through to cancellations intending to drop everything...

StuC75 i am not in a contract with Sky but in January i rang up and said i am thinking of leaving and they offered me that deal.
I have been told that Sky will not give any other offers if 1 is already on the account.
  • I used to be with sky for the whole shebang, tv, multiroom, phone, broadband. but we had problems with the adsl due to our distance from the exchange so we moved to BT which was better for us. Sky, on demand etc was unchanged just had to pop in the new wireless key and job was a good un.

With BT and Orange there does seem to be a "ceiling" that they do not like to go below. I know nothing of Sky.

Both BT and Orange quoted me about £36 a month for Unlimited Broadband, Line rental and free calls Anytime. They both baulked at going anything less.

The savings for new BT customers (from what you have said) appears to be that it is free Broadband for the first six months (Unlimited) or free for the first 12 months (10 Gig usage allowance).

Obviously you will save more if you get the 10 GB package but is 10 GB adequate for your needs? You pay more and you get more.

If you go for the 10 GB deal and then find (as you almost certainly will) that you have to upgrade to Unlimited dont expect to get the first six months free (as you would have done if you had gone for Unlimited in the first place.

The 10 GB usage allowance, free for a year, is just bait to hook the unwary.

Ah had misread the 7 weeks left on the TV.. still a similar point that with that deal in place they have no motivation to improve those terms..
