My BT offer.

Hello.

I got a letter from BT offering me free broadband, unlimited evening and weekend calls and free BT sports for a year but i will have to pay line rental and the contract is for 18 months.
I pay BT line rental now but my calls are with Sky Freetime.

Some help is needed.
My Sky package is,
movies+entertainment extra+sports pack+unlimited broadband and Freetime.
1. If i switch can i use 1899 with BT as i do with Sky.
2. Can i still use On Demand without Sky broadband.
3. Will i still get catch up tv through my sky+ box.
4. Are there any other pitfalls by switching to BT.
The BT offer states that the download limit is 10GB but can i upgrade to unlimited as the letter says i have to call a number to get this offer and i dont want to switch and find that i am stuck on the 10GB limit.
Tank you in advance for any help.

2 - Yes On Demand and Catchup still works with Non sky broadband (Im on infinity2 and it works fine if not better!)..

Dont go with the 10gb, unlimited really is the way to go - especially with ondemand and catchup services..

Bt Sports is free to all joining bt \ broadband with telephone.

If you keep sky tv, you can add the sky viewing card on the BT site so that bt sports can be watched through TV rather than just online..

I moved to BT from Orange and have no complaints at all. (Not since I upgraded from 10 GB to unlimited) I am very pleased with the new free BT sports channels.

Take good note of what StuC75 says about not going for the 10 GB a month usage allowance. This will give you a lot of grief. Go for the Unlimited deal.

Write down a list of what you want from BT (ie, Unlimited Broadband, free anytime calls and etc) and negotiate the best deal you can. You are in the strongest position when you have no contract. If you take the 10 GB deal and then try and upgrade you are in a weaker bargaining position as they already have you in an 18 month contract.

Thank you for the advice .. I was confused with this option. :)

I made the mistake of going for the 10 GB usage allowance and found it completely destroyed my enjoyment of the internet. You have to think twice before streaming anything like tv catchup or "On demand" or You Tube. You even shudder at largish software updates.

Fortunately I was able to upgrade to Unlimited with no hassle and have had no complaints since.

Couldn't believe my luck when they suddenly launched the live free footie channels. I believe I can even watch them in HD.

    Thank you for the replies.

The mailshot i got says i have to ring up and quote "12 Free" to get this offer.
Prefer to do it online though.
Would i have to call Sky and get a MAC from them to give to BT as on BT's site it says they will do all that but there is a thread on here where somebody switched and was still being billed by Sky as they never requested a MAC so i am not sure.
As for 1899 overider i have not been able to find out anything about if it will work if i swap all my broadband/line rental and calls to BT.

AFAIA BT have to allow overrides;they are the only telecom co. who are forced to do so.
I'm surprised that you currently can use 1899 with Sky.

    brewerdave,
I pay line rental to BT and my calls go through Sky and i have used 1899 for over 4 years now.
If i can still use 1889 if i switch to BT then thats a bonus.

It's a carrier preselect number - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier_preselect They don't work well with VM cable phone as you have to dial a special 0800 number but then 1899 charges per minute.

    18855 is another.

Something like this happened to me. BT will tell you the date when the transfer of services will take place. They are supposed to inform your old ISP of that date. In my case Orange said they were not informed. In order to safeguard yourself just email Sky and tell them the date the transfer is taking place to ensure that there is no misunderstanding.

If you have the Sky Broadband Unlimited or Lite package currently, they aren't provide a MAC code. This is because the Unlimited and Lite packages use Sky's 'LLU' network.

It would be best in this situation to order over the phone, that way you can explain that you are wanting to move from Sky's 'LLU' network.
