Sorry if wrong section, no clear section I could see where I could put this thread.
Hi guys, just wanting to get some advice. Basically, I am 20 years old and I wanted to rent a car. Obviously being 20, it's hard getting a rental car. So I turned to gumtree (how naive was i) and found a car rental place.
I phoned up the guy, sounded legit, said he was based in london (but it turned out to actually be based in same city as myself) and in order to get there to put deposit down it would of been a 300 mile trip.
Anyway, the day came for the car to come, didn't turn up at the time was meant to come, phoned him up and he asked for a further £200 to get the car which I refused to pay as I was yet to see the car I rented out. Asked for a refund, didn't get one in the end because money was sent via bank transfer no comebacks, so i decided to let it go as an scummy experience.
I waited two weeks and posed as someone else looking to rent a car, this guy always insisted on paying via bank transfer but I convinced him to meetup.
He came, but sent someone else to collect the money, i tried to play it cool, but as I got near him he backed off and as I tried to grab his assocatied he ran off and I gave chase, couldn't catch him. Came back and one of his other mates who weren't around a the time, threw a brick and smashed my back car window.
The really serious part is I also bought a small knife along with me, BUT I HAD NO INTENTION OF USING IT. I ONLY BOUGHT IT ALONG JUST IN CASE OF PROTECTION AS I DIDN'T KNEW WHO I WAS DEALING WITH. IT WAS A STUPID MISTAKE.
I BIN THE KNIFE BEFORE THE POLICE CAME, BUT AS I WENT INTO THE STATION, THE POLICE OFFICER SAID A WITNESS SEEN ME THROW A KNIFE INTO THE BIN. I STRAIGHT AWAY ADMITTED CARRYING IT AND I ONLY EXPRESS IN DEEP SORROW THAT I HAD NO INTENTION OF USING IT AND WAS ONLY FOR PROTECTION.
I HAVE BEEN A VICTIM OF FRAUD AND ALSO VANDALISM.
I WAS GOING TO GIVE A STATEMENT BUT I WANTED A SOLICITOR, SO THEY RELEASED ME AND SAID I WILL BE ABLE TO COME INTO THE POLICE STATION IN A WEEK TO GIVE A STATEMENT.
IT'S MY FIRST EVER OFFENCE, DO YOU THINK I WILL BE LET OFF WITH A CAUTION FOR CARRYING A KNIFE WITH NO INTENTION OF USING IT?
I WANTED TO JOIN THE POLICE, I GUESS I CAN KISS GOODBYE TO THAT NOW.

So in summary - you were ripped off and thought you'd carry out some vigilante justice. Instead you wimped out and ended up with your car window smashed as well.
Hey ho, that's life.0 -
Why did you need to hire a car when you clearly already have one?!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

I'm not quite sure whether I believe much (if any) of the story, but if you're interested in what happens to people found to be in possession of knives, our beloved government issues regular statistical updates on the outcomes.

Ooh, nice twist at the end thereOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

You are bloody lucky you didnt get into a fight and used the knife to 'defend' yourself.0

This seems to be your year for the first time you ever do something wrong, based on a thread you started in June.Hi there, the police the other day were doing a massive crackdown in my area with people on their phones. I never use my phone whilst driving but on this occasion (brief moment of answering and 'I'll call you back in a bit' talk) and got caught. I was also stuck in extremely heavy traffic.
I hope you're not let off, there is no excuse for carrying a knife and you deserve anything and everything you get. If you were so worried that you'd need protection you shouldn't have gone in the first place.0 -
Nice story :rotfl: It's got more holes in it than a string vest....0
