An extracted tooth leaves a clean socket. It will heal from the socket upwards. Any blood coming out will also push germs out. A salt water rinse should have been recommended, are you using that?
Antibiotics aren't normally prescribed. A review in a week/ish, is fine.

Youhurt Queen had an abcess as well though so very suprised that

    a) Dentist took tooth out in 1st place as usually they like the infection gone before they will extract.

    b) Antibiotics were not given.

Hiya guys, not been on laptop for a few days so miles behind, though I had quoted this lovely pic of darling Poppy looking so relaxed and happy :j

    I couldn't agree more :j :T :j

Anyway, I had a great time with my friends, ending with a visit to Swanage on Saturday for the carnival fireworks which are fantastic, then I drove home late on Sunday evening

I had my hospital appointment yesterday afternoon about my knees, but after examination and x-rays, the specialist said that my knees where not quite bad enough for replacement surgery as still a little gap between the bones. Alternatives where carry on as now with pain control and using crutches, etc, or an exploratory camera to check how bad knees are, which could reveal they are worse than x-ray shows or that they are just as the x-rays show, which would mean a wasted operation and always risks with any op. He was concerned at the amount of pain I have had, which I rated at 10/10 at worst times, but agreed to see me in 6 months to review, but if any worse or I can't cope with pain, I am to contact his secretary to arrange to see him again to have exploratory op done.

As I was driving over to Kings Lynn for the appointment, I came across a totally new roundabout and was confused at how that had sprung up, but realised that the last time i was over there was end of June last year, when Alan was admitted very poorly and then transferred to Palliative Care is Wisbech. Got rather upset at the memories so was quite tearful when talking to the doctor, especially when saying that aln used to do so much for me and now I am on my own :( Had a good cry late last night :(

Anyway, I was up very early this morning and got washin in as lovely day, and then went out in pj's and cut back all the new growth on the blackberry, tayberry and raspberry bushes as getting overgrown and they are coming out anyway after they have fruited this year. Loads of fruit on them ready to pick and loads more to come

I don't know if I mentioned that I had a bad fall in the hallway after I got back home from my enforced 8 weeks stay up North a couple of months ago, when I fell heavily against a stool and badly bruised my left boob, but the tissue under the bruise hardened as could be expected and I have now been left with a small pea-sized lump in my left breast so I am off to see a nurse practitioner this afternoon to get that checked. I can't pretend that I am not worried about it :( I will report back later

Hopefully it will be nothing, but always best to get it checked x:)

I don't know why, but the dentist didn't give me any antibiotics. I was in too much shock at the time, to even press her. She asked if I was allergic to penicilyn and then just said, well, I'll just give you these pain killers (ibuprofen), of which I already have a large stock. But I took them anyway.

I had to go back on friday to have stitches out. However, I phoned them an hour ago and asked to change the appointment as I've got some work on friday now. The receptionist reckons they are disolvable stitches and it shouldn't matter that the dentist can only now fit me in NEXT thursday. 15 August. Still puzzled as to why I didn't get some antibiotics. I've had about six stitches!

i realise it isnt as easy done than said but if at all possible i would seriously consider changing dentists. who am i to criticise but from what you have described i would not like to have to go to that one. sounds at the very least incompetent
however if you are happy with them just ignore me :)

This is the reason I love this thread so much. Quite apart from all the great money saving tips, we get to share what's on our minds. For those who are off ill from work, or for those who are stuck indoors, this thread is a life saver in so many ways.

As for your predicament, I wouldn't swap you for me any day. I remember only too well, when my mother was going into hospital and we were all told to come in and say our goodbyes. Was the hardest thing i've ever had to endure, as i'm sure it was for us all.

Then she was ok and discharged! It was a year later, after two or three more scares that she finally went to sleep. We were unable to say goodbye this time, because it was sudden. But i'm grateful we got to cherish her another year.

The worst part is the waiting around. If you have family gathered around, you can't help but start to talk about her in the past tense almost. And you end up saying things like, Oh well, she'll be out of pain, etc. etc. No more loss of dignity etc. Its her time. etc.

Then the next thing you know, she's home. I hope i'm explaining things properly here. But what I'm trying to say really, is just love her and be there as much as possible while you're lucky enough to have her, and you will have no regrets.

Tom, I can't decide whether she was incompetent or whether my tooth was just a stubborn little !!!!!!. I think time will tell. She was very slight. I'd say a size 8. I think that can have a lot to do with someone's strength. I can't help thinking if it had been a more robust person, they'd have yanked it out in seconds.

I had a size 16 lady take another wisdom tooth out about 5 years ago, and I was pleasantly surprised that it took litterally 2 seconds to yank tooth out.

Obviously, i've been doing some googling. The general consensus is that they are better off leaving the roots in, rather than risk damaging the nerve. So I'm holding off judgement for now, and will just see how things go. I believe its the first 48 hours you need to get past, then you are at less risk of infection. Fingers crossed.
