  • i would be either say get a Ipad as you can do productivty part i.e. (i am assuming for essays and dissertation) or get an refurbished Macbook Air which maybe if your luck could be around the £600 mark. not sure on that price so please do check on apple website and also please check the apple outlet in ebay as they have very good offers on there refurb equipment

I've got an ipad but really need a laptop for uni, they have said. Having borrowed one, I'm really not keen on the Air tbh. I would be going for the cheapest Pro. If I can sell my current laptop for around £200, then with the Apple student discount or going for a refurb, I could probably afford it...

    Have you looked on eBay?

All these are less than £600.

    Several nice ones.

Wow, some excellent bargains there! Genuinely can't believe it, why are people selling one year old Macbook Pro's for £300?! Its a risk, with their being no warranty but if it was all above board you can get a very good deal.

Well, have plugged in my Macbook and she must have dried out as it's now working fine, thank god.

I'm going to try (again) to see if I can speed it up a bit and hopefully keep it going until January when I might be able to more easily afford a MacBook Pro without worrying about it.

ETA: macman saw your questions from yesterday. I'm using OS X 10.5.8 and have 27.73 GB free on Hard Drive, 22.88 MB free in System Memory.

Such a shame the Uni have insisted you have to get a laptop really good productivity apps on the Ipad and is fantastic device i believe for students.

Can i ask why your not so keen on the Air, apart from not having a high res screen, its is ideal for portability, and run just as good if not better than Pros as they are built with the latest Flash memory making very fast

is the wedge shape you have worry's about?

    Great news!

Now back it up, particularly your data, IMMEDIATELY.

No excuses, no delays, do it NOW.

Hopefully, the MacBook has survived intact, but you can't be sure, yet.

I'm trying drying it out for a few days then I'll see if it powers up. If it doesn't I'm screwed. I hadn't backed anything up. Stupid girl, no excuse.

OK, but how much RAM do you have installed, and which exact model is it (which processor)?
I'd echo Gratis's warning. The damage may have already been done and corrosion may proceed to kill it yet. So back up while you can.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I agree I love my ipad, and use it more than my laptop. I would have been lost without it over the past few days.

I didn't like using the Air a) because of the screen resolution b) for the work I do, I do need the super drive and carting that around pretty much defeats the pro of it being more portable....

    c) don't laugh but...I didn't like the "feel" of it. It just felt cheap and plasticy to me :o.

I prefer using my current Macbook to the Air. Yes, I know this probably sounds mad!

I think a trip to the Apple store to have a "play" is called for.

I will definitely back up now! It's just annoying that I can't access iCloud due to my Macbook software being as up to date as it could be but not current enough for iCloud's specs. Otherwise I would have done it sooner. All my ipad stuff is backed up to iCloud.

Buy a macbook if you're a toal meathead with no imagination. If you ever want to use your computer for anything of value, Mac won't allow it. Besides that, the software feeds your information straigth back to USA Govt servers (don't believe me, iPhone recently had a patent awarded that allows it to block the camera ...and more... when around govt buildings or protests). Don't be a MARK!
