I can't argue with any of your logical answers HAW, but it still makes me wince just at the thought of it :rotfl:. I think it's similar to the thought of contact lenses - just, no.0

I'm not saying any of these things make sense, or are even true, this is just my own (probably warped lol) view:
- a lot of toilets don't have a sink in the room with them (certainly none do where I work), which doesn't seem too hygienic.
- I wouldn't feel at all secure unless I had a pad as well.
- I'd be worried about it getting stuck or moving somewhere it shouldn't!
- with applicator tampons there's never a point where my hands are in contact with blood, I don't think that would be the case with a cup.
- it looks uncomfortable! Like you'd be able to feel it all the time and would have to sit down carefully :rotfl:.
Like I say, probably all rubbish but I definitely won't be trying one anytime soon.
It doesn't matter if it makes sense or not, it's how you feel, and that's what I was curious about
-You can leave the cup in for a long, long time-over eight hours, probably more, it's just that most people will be uncomfortable at the idea. Obviously this is ignoring those with a heavy flow that need to change it! Because the cup forms a seal, air and bacteria can't get in, so there's no scent or problem with leaving it long enough to avoid public bathrooms. You could also bring wipes of some kind (not scented or anything like that!) to clean it with while in the stall.
-It's definitely secure, it suctions around the cervix when in place, you need to break the seal to remove itLike I mentioned you can even go swimming with them in!
-I've never actually gotten blood on my hands since I've started using one, it all stays in the cup so unless you accidently tip it out it's not likely you'd come into contact with it.
-If you can feel it, it's either not quite in place, the wrong size, or you need to trim the stemthere are lots of different cups, in different shapes and sizes, and you can trim the stem down so it doesn't poke out. I was surprised when I first used mine properly, how you don't feel it at all really. Maybe when lying down to sleep, but otherwise not really.
When compared to pads, I can see why people would find the idea of a cup uncomfortable, but when it's people who use tampons who say that it confuses me a bit-(in my opinion) a sterile, smooth, soft cup that you can forget about is much nicer than an unhygienic, rough wad of cottoneach to their own, of course.

Just out of interest, nothing is sterile once it's been exposed to air
Do they work if you have a sensitive or weirdly-positioned cervix? Also doesn't breaking the suction seal hurt?
I'm curious for if I ever decide to ditch the Depo

Sensitive or weirdly-positioned - I can't answer.
Breaking the suction seal hurt - nope.
Ditch the Depo - I wish I'd had a choice. I had to change coz I'd been on it for too long. Implant is soooo handy, but my periods started backWealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0 -

Yeah, that was badly worded. To clarify; it can be sterilized, as in you can boil it to remove anything that may be on the surface (like if you got a yeast infection, or used soap on it without thinking, etc), and it's non-porous so it can't harbour any bacteria or nastiness
Breaking the seal doesn't hurt-it's just pinching the bottom of the cup then pulling it out. I don't know about weirdly positioned or sensitive, can't really think why it would affect it too much.0 -
Cool - thanks ladies, something to consider!
How long is too long on Depo? I don't fancy the implant and though I loved my Mirena, I've had no kids and have a sensitive cervix so not sure I fancy having another!

I was telling Dr/FP I was on and off it for about 8 years, whereas it's probably closer to 6. Risk of osteoporosis. They both refused to give it to me any longer. None of that with the implant.Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0
