I've only ever been asked about content when shipping internationally.
Otherwise, they just check item value0 -

Since the 15th I have posted 25 medium (3 this morning) packages in 6 post offices and the only one to ask has been in my Tesco expressWWSD(what would Scooby Doo)0

The lady in my local PO just pointed out the sheet of prohibited items, asked if my parcels contained any of them, I said no (being truthful, they were all clothes), and that was that. I hope they don't decide to start asking any further probing questions in the future!0 -
A few of my local PO's always ask and have done since God knows when. Some have never asked and I think never will.0

She did that to me the other day, showed me the sheet so I thought that would be enough but then proceeded to ask what each one was individually.
I'm hearing some branches are striking again on Monday too.0 -
Thats out of order its not their business as long as its something safe to post.
If you are posting a few when she asks what the first one is reply - a large dil*o I bet she won't ask what's in the rest!0 -
Although it may have some basis on preventing prohibited items, the question asking 'what's inside?' routinely leads to the suggestion that the item is valuable and ought to go via an inappropriately expensive service.
From what I've seen, it's a cynical attempt to con the unwary (usually the elderly, usually on a tight budget) into paying over the top amounts for inappropriate services, to send greetings cards.

What have Royal Mail done wrong?
Surely it should be the Post Office that your annoyance is aimed at.0
