Much of what you say is true, but and it is a big but, not all of us have much choice. I live in a town with one supermarket - Mr T. My nearest others (Aldi and Morrison) are 12 miles away, or in the case of Asda 25 miles away, with journey costs outweighing any savings.

Compared to where I live, It sounds like you live in the middle of nowhere. I am within a 5-10 minute drive of 1 Asda, 3 Tesco's, 2 Sainsbury's, 2 Morrison's, 1 co-op, An Aldi, A couple of Lidl's, a few smaller Asda's, a smaller Morrison's, a Sainsbury's Local and countless Tesco Express stores.

That's not very MSE:eek:; assuming your talking Clubcard Vouchers (which is what the thread is about) and not money off vouchers, why would you not at least spend them at their face value - Mr T must have something you can buy without adding more to the vouchers?

It may not be 'MSE', as you put it, but I agree entirely with the sentiments expressed by Hezzawithkids.

There's something rather distasteful about shopping at Tesco these days. It's back where it was in the 70s - shabby, downmarket and unpleasant. I even photographed a dead rat outside ours not so long ago!

From getting close on 100% of our spending a few years back, they now get virtually nothing. Aldi and Waitrose combined provide the perfect alternative combination, and the pleasure of cutting Tesco out of the equation is enormous.

Sorry; but by not spending clubcard vouchers you already have, you simply put that money back in Mr T's pockets. That is just silly from anyones perspective, more so from people who don't like Mr T.

    Your very lucky then!

I live in a town of around 4000 people, not in the middle of nowhere, but equally not on the doorstep of a larger town or city. There are many similar towns in the UK which have limited shopping choices.

Let's not kid ourselves here. Tesco don't run a loyalty scheme to give money away. They do it to capture vast quantities of data about their customers and their spending habits with the sole objective of getting them to buy more. Don't forget that to "earn" the vouchers in the first place you need to spend unfeasibly large sums so I don't consider it to be free money. If giving up a few quid (and I'm really talking pennies here) means they don't get anything from me - monetary or otherwise - then that's a sacrifice I'm prepared to make.

I agree. Since Terry Leahy's departure they seem to be on a slippery downward slope with shoddy stores, poor quality products and appalling service. I will go out of my way to avoid shopping there since after every visit I feel like I need a shower. I have some unpsent vouchers from last year that will probably remain unpsent until they expire, I just can't bring myself to give them any share of my spending.

    How ridiculously absurd...

I have earnt £130 of Clubcard points in the last 6 months and I haven't spent an "unfeasibly large sum" - I just use the scheme cleverly.

And using already existing vouchers wouldn't result in them getting anything from you - it would achieve quite the opposite in fact, they would be losing stock for no gain.

You may think you've saved £130 by shopping at Tesco. My guess is though that you'd have saved several times that by shopping at Aldi or Lidl!

I don't think I've saved £130 in Tesco - I've barely even spent £130 there! Nor will I spend the vouchers there, I convert them into Airmiles which can save a hell of a lot. I got a flight worth £150 for £10 in Tesco vouchers.

My main supermarket is actually Asda which is often cheaper than Aldi and Lidl (for the stuff I buy anyway - raw ingredients not processed food), and then certain items in Aldi as and when they're cheaper (usually the Super 6).

I temped at Tesco HQ - in the Marketing department - for a few months last year. They couldn't give a flying f%*! about their customers. Their only concerns are the bottom line and keeping their shareholders happy. I know because I was in meetings where this was explicitly stated, that and worse. I've had the privilege of working for many big organisations & household brands over the years, but what I saw and heard at Tesco turned me off them for life. You have not gained £130, they have gained your loyalty and, I would guess a reasonable share of your wallet. They no longer get that from me.

What an earth has this got to do with discussing Clubcard Vouchers and the revamp of the Clubcard scheme, which you obviously no longer have any interest in?
