I also decant cheap(ish) shampoo into a posh container that has a pump top and I find I use so much less.0 -
I just posted this on a different thread and realised it should definitely be here!
My mum uses cut-up (CLEAN) carrier bags to separate food to go in the freezer. Works great and saves buying specialised stuff.

Dilute your milk - sounds mad, but I make two pints of milk for every pint I buy - it saves many pennies and means I can afford to buy organic milk which is twice the price of a normal pint.
I buy semi-skimmed or whole milk and then have a 1 pint milk container and dilute half milk with half water.
NB. dont do this if you are using milk as a cooking ingrediant. Its fine for use in tea, on cereal etc and it doesnt taste any different.
Good idea in theory, but will halve your calcium... and no good for kidsIf you think you can't or you think you can, either way you are right

Or get a bagless machine. Best thing we ever did.0 -
Meal plan for the week, draw up a shopping list and stick to it. Also don't buy premium brands. I've cut my shopping by at least £15 a week by doing this! :j

I went to one of those cheap european supermarkets once....... obviously I didn't recognise any brandnames so I wasn't prepared to spend any money on things if I didn't know if I would like them, because if i didn't like the food then I wouldn't eat it. However, I suppose once you get used to non-Heinz and non-Kelloggs products then that'll be ok. You do get what you pay for food-wise. The premium ranges of foods in supermarkets are what the food should taste like. Tomatoes in Sainsbury's are almost £2 a punnet, but they are actually ripe and taste like tomatoes. The budget range are underripe and hard. Duchy dry cure bacon vs the danish watery stuff. No competition.M&S oven chips and frozen sweetcorn are the best you will ever taste. Once you have had the best, it's a no-brainer.
I do eat food from the cheap european supermarkets when I go to visit my relations. I eat what they eat. And it doesn't taste as nice. Fact.0 -
I suppose though Nancypearl, it's not necessarily about having what you would rather have, is it
This is the part that is going to kill me about getting enough money together for a house and paying off our debt. I LIKE good food. Sainsburys taste the difference sausage, for example, are the best sausage I ever tasted. It doesn't mean I can afford to eat like that though, if I want a house. We have to make sacrifices, and it is possible to eat a healthy diet without purchasing the top of the range stuff.
Now, when I'm rich, I will not hesitate to shop and Marks and spencer. Yum.Proud to be dealing with my debts :T
