Great 'ways To Cut Back' Hunt

Join your local freecycle news group.
This is a fantastic way to re-cycle unwanted items and you can also find bits and bobs you need. For example my daughter recently moved into her own flat she had no telly. Picked a decent telly up for free on freecycle.
The way it works is that if you have stuff you are about to throw out, don't. Offer it on freecycle and you could be doing someone a great favour. If there is anything you need, don't go out and buy a new one, ask on freecycle, somone may just have what you need.
Everything is free. And you will be helping the enviroment by keeping land fill down to a minimum.
If you don't do anything else to visit this site.

Use white vinegar instead of fabric conditioner. One capful per wash - works just as well, doesn't make the clothes smell of vinegar, keeps the machine clean and is so cheap. Incidentally, towels are much more absorbent if you don't use conditioner! I like this thread!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Ooo I have some of that AND I'm about to put laundry on now. Which is a BIG no no for me normally..
I Have economy 7 (so my electric is cheaper at night- for those who dont know).. I have timers on my dishwasher (thanks dad!) tumbler and washing machine, and they are all set to come on (at night) when the electric is cheaper for me.
It works out roughly.. that for running one of them during the day I can/could run FOUR of them at night for the same price I'd pay in the daytime. .. See.. clear as mud!
hahaha anyway.. Thanks Mioliere I will try it now.

I like to shop between three supermarkets and really get to know their prices. I remind myself to look above and below on the shelves to make sure I do not miss any 'suitable purchase'. Don't hesitate to try the 'value' or 'economy' range of purchases. If you don't like something you will definitely remember not to waste your money on it again. In the previous three months I have made some drastic changes to my choice of purchases and have cut my shopping bill by one third. My husband is delighted with the cheaper bills and tells me the food and choices of food I make now are just as enjoyable. One more thing - I used to feel the need to buy from the beautifully presented M&S but not any more!0

Thanks Eupho. My only worry now is that I heard recently that the cause of a recent house fire was found to be fluff in a tumble dryer that was on while the household was asleep. Please please make sure all your fluff is gone if you tumble whilst your're asleep (if you see what I mean!)KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

We suffer from very hard water here. Three showers have 'died' over the years, the whole gubbins, not just the head which I descale regularly. I spend a fortune on descaler for the kettle etc. but now I've invested in a large filter jug and use it every time I refill the kettle. DH can never seem to remember and automatically makes his way to the tap whenever he fills the kettle! Filter cartridges aren't cheap but I buy in bulk whenever I see any on offer anywhere.
Main problem is Calgon for the washing machine. I stick to using one in every was because my last machine (in pre Calgon days) gave up the ghost through limescale after a lot of use. Would a half tablet work effectively? Calgon is a shocking price and I get through a lot:eek: . Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative brand or a cheaper old-fashioned alternative please?
Keep up the good work all. You're an inspiration:beer:0
