Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 23rd July. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the
Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning :hello:

Thunder and lightning woke me up at 4.30am, I got up to watch :D I put the kettle on and the rain started, it'd stopped by the time the kettle had boiled  I love a good storm, was really looking forward to it.

Was sick of hearing about the baby on the news all day yesterday, so I put the local news on at teatime – where they were chatting to a reporter in Tetbury :wall:

It's very cool here now so I'm going to spend some time in the garden. The tomato plants have turned triffidy so they need a trim, and my little seating space seems to have become a dumping ground for bits of wood and anything else that doesn't have an official 'home'. Gggrrrr.

Oooh the thunder is starting again :T :D

    Raining here at the moment,
Raid is due for most of the day.

I can hear a low rumble of thunder In The distance but Iv not seen any lighting.

Not much on for me today, Iv got some tidying around the house to do,

I also need to think about what we will be having for dinner tonight. It will involve chicken. We still have some left over from Sunday.

Last night we had Left over roast chicken cooked With onions, carrots green pepper In a tin of Tom's and served with chicken.

Well I hope everyone has a good day,

Enjoy what ever your up to.

    Have fun :j:j

  • Good morning everyone :)

Later start for me as I have a day off today but have still been up for a while working out finances for the next month.

It's pouring down with rain here, no thunder or lightening yet and certainly no drop in the temperature, it's very humid and uncomfortable.

Is anyone else thoroughly sick of royal babies already? Congratulations on the birth of their son and that's it, we don't need a second by second account of nothing happening all day! I bet it will be all day on the news today too.

Plans today for some decluttering so want to make a trip to the tip and on the way back to Oxfam, then get a few bits of salad on the way home. Have defrosted some mince and some chicken thighs to do a bit of batch cooking today but I don't feel inspired in this heat to spend a long time in the kitchen.

DH is still asleep so can't do weekly weigh in yet. Will report back later on diet progress.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

Morning chums I was awoken by my upstairs fire alarm flashing and beeping. The storm had upset its delicate balance Its OK now but at 3.20a.m. its was a pain in the butt. Its a sealed unit so I can't remove the battery (not that I would )Its only the upstairs one that does it for some reason.Nice drop of rain though and it saves watering the garden this morning very overcast but still humid.I have three of my DGS to take care of today and the little one breaks up this afternoon. Not sure yet what we will be doing but something industrious I expect :):)
    Take care all

    Morning everyone :j

It's a bit cloudy here this morning but still very warm. We've been promised thunder storms so I'm keeping my fingers crossed as, like Tru I love to watch a storm. Saying that, I've got my first load of washing on the go so it would be helpful if it stayed dry lol.

DD's have their last day of school today :D I love having them home for the holidays even if the bickering can get a bit much at times! I haven't heard from DD13 so I'm assuming the camping is going well. DD12 has a 'shopping and cinema' day planned as one of her activity days and DD10 has an end of term party. I should have made something for her to take but I must admit, I cheated and bought some cookies.:o

Apart from the aforementioned washing, I don't really have a lot to do today. I'm going to tackle the living room but that shouldn't take very long and I must get some pork loin steaks out of the freezer for tea. I thought I would do some in cajun spice and leave some plain for the wussier members of this family.:rotfl:I will do some sweet potato wedges and coleslaw with them too. The beef and vegetable curry was really nice last night, my eldest DD joined us for tea but did spend time picking out all the mushrooms lol. Oh well, you can't win them all.

Anyway, evil kittens are demanding their breakfast so I must go. Gentle hugs are available to all who would like one so take care.
    Cheers m'dears x

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Dull, overcast, raining heavily and steadily and periodic thunder and lightning. Hoping it feels a bit fresher today.

DH up and off to work not stupid early.

Dinner last night was pork chops, HG new potatoes, veg and gravy, ice creams for dessert. Tonight will be the sausages we didn't eat at the weekend, I'll serve them with mash, veg and onion gravy.

Work was a bit of a manic Monday - had a queue of people waiting when we opened the doors first thing and a continous stream of customers for a while, then it eased off and then started again! I had a late lunch then worked on the telephones in the afternoon and the phones were really busy too. We'll see what today brings - likely to be busy again as people unable to sit out/get on in the garden.

Have a good day - remember the suncream if you're out in the sun!

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Just popping by whilst I have my cuppa before heading out. I was ready much earlier today but no point getting in early only to head home to longer in an empty house (bar pup) when I leave early! Bf is at a camp today until Thursday.

Nice little storm woke me up five minutes before my alarm which was nice. I love thunder storms.

Lovely to hear about the birth of the son of Their Royal Highness' the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Can't wait for the moment the Queen meets him and when his name is announced!

Expecting a quiet day at work, Belvita for breakfast and noodles for lunch (from my draw as we don't really have anything suitable in at home!) Tea is going to be chile from the freezer with...something, Not sure what yet.

    Will pop by again later

Hugs to all who want/need them and any poor lies amongst us

    Morning all,

A fantastic thunderstorm here to start the day. Have lots of jobs to do today including collecting a bedding box I bought in the charity shop for £5:T it was a bargain so they are saving it for me.
Also need to go to the bank and the post office, lots of general rushing about.
My mouth feels a touch better if slightly tender and my leg ached due to the rain I think but otherwise I'm ok.
I think the new baby could be a George but I may be wrong, hubby thinks David as its welsh and probably because he is called David :j
Fasting day today so need to keep busy, hugs if you need one.
    Bye for now J x

    Morning all,

:bdaycake:Happy Birthday to Taplady, hope you have a great day xx

Still very warm here, we had rain last night for about 4 mins, and then back to unbearable heat, we are supposed to be getting the storm at lunchtime today, I hope so we need one to clear the air.

I must admit I am a bit tired of the coverage of the 'baby' I am very pleased for them both but they are reporting about nothing, there was a very long still last night of the hospital door  not sure what that was all about.

Dropping dd at work this morning then home to do my office work, and have a clean through, I have a small wash to do will get that on the go.

Dinner tonight will be lamb chops and some roasted veg.

    Have good days all xx

Well its been thundering and lightening pretty constantly since 3am. I was woken up by a clap of thunder and a dog shot on me bed. Its been raining constantly now for several hours but at least the temperature has dropped.

Need to pop down the post office later but theres nothing set in stone for today.

Havent got as far as thinking about tea yet in fact ive not got as far as anything. I'd best get moving in case I take root.

    Have a good day all.
