This was the PROFESSIONAL reply as a representative of theDWP

You can not 2nd guess a advert for a role called STAFF ACCOUNTANT and assume they are after a junior (which is what they were looking for but the word and job spec read differently) when it made no mention of it being an entry role or do not apply if you have over say 10 years exp etc.

Dumbing down a CV could make you UNDER qualified or they ask you 'with 20 years exp why have you not learnt this' or 'with 20 years experience you have had no promotion, why' or 'you don't know much do you'?

all you can do is go by what the ad says. theres no beating a poorly written job ad.

Ok ready for this? I asked my advisor for advice on how to get past the 'you have too much experience' or 'you are over qualified for this role' responses.

She has asked her MANAGER at the JC and their reply was................do some voluntary work!!!

I asked then again how will this make me LESS qualified and or make them interview me, to which the reply was 'I am not sure'

Voluntary work wouldn't help and this came from a manager? I thought maybe downplaying it a little would be a possibility? But volunteering wouldn't help being seen as over experienced plus you have the experience so how can you have too much??

You can have too much if the person who would be your boss has less or the team who do the same job have less than you. These companies should not over state their jobs that they advertise.

This was the advice from a JCP Manager!!!

Volunteering helps people with no experience but not the other way round so I laughed. My CV would still be the same as it is now and I would get the same reply.

Then surely they would benefit from your experience as that seems logical

No it is seen as a stop gap and it may well be as we are told 'take any job you are offered' but you have to get the interview first to get the offer.

I will take any job and yes I am entitled to use it as a stop gap.

Even someone with less experience may not like the job on day one and in 3 months leave. There are no guarantees that the job is for life or the staff are. It works both ways.

Its also seen as you will get bored (yes I have been told this) to which my reply is 'is the job boring'?

They can use me to THEIR advantage but they do not see it that way at all.

About 15 years ago whilst in work I went to a job interview and got the 2nd interview and they got a reference on me where they told me 'Kevin couldn't speak more highly of you' and 'I think the job will be too boring' TO MY FACE!!!

I said I could take on more work like they suggested at interview stage and that it was for their benefit etc but it was a no go. They took someone else on and 4 months later I saw the job advertised again!!!

    Jobcentre and so-called providers
The jobcentre's latest mantra is about "what the employer wants" such as forcing people on pointless courses and forced labour

That's nothing at all to do with them telling me the great words of wisdom on how to get the employer to NOT say I am over qualified. Its laughable.

Oh yes and I asked how often I was meant to be seen by the JC and I was told it could be less than once a month. They said the ones who go once a week or more often are the people who need help like, letter writing, CV's, looking for work, have lack of references, lack of work experience etc.

Just like the WP I say and a waste of time to boot
