Planning On Getting Pregnant

I could of been using the ovulation tests wrong, but still I found it very upsetting to not get a positive result which is why I decided not to use them the 2nd mth.
Granted I bought mine from superdrug as wanted them asap.
Do agree though that falling pregnant quickly was lucky, we certainly didn't expect it that soon. To be honest I decided not to use the ovulation tests the 2nd mth and just decided to see what happened and not have to focus on the tests either not working or me doing them wrong.
I thought sod it, as felt I was putting too much pressure on myself and then felt a bit more relaxed about it all.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -

Is there a list anywhere of all the free samples you can get etc, such as joining boots baby club or pampers club etc?
Also anything which is helpful for pregnant/new mum/new baby
Please tell me if you know of any!
Thank you!!
I seem to vaguely remember from a previous post that you are youngish (teens)?
I don't want to sound preachy but there is more to family planning than getting some freebies and joining some discount clubs.
Are you in a long term and committed relationship - having a baby can put extra strain on some relationships.
Do you have savings to give you a buffer if the unexpected happens? Unemployment, house move etc?
Are you in a position to buy all of the baby equipment and accessories without going into debt?
I guess what I'm saying is that it's better to wait and save rather than to have a baby on a really tight budget and then have to scrimp by for the next 18 years.:hello:0 -
Oh dear cottage retreatist, you must be so careful about what you put in your body pre pregnancy. With the least chemicals in your body as possible you will avoid ADD and other problems. Make sure that you don't eat any food that you don't understand the ingredients for. It is all full of horrible food colouring and flavour that will be illegal in 15 years, but right now its all we eat!!! Be safe and keep our future well and ready for success!
Thanks AlSelley!
I always cook all our food from scratch apart from once every two weeks when I allow the OH a takeaway which is not MoneySaving so I'm cutting him to once a month - also not good for his belly!! I even get the meat from the butchers cause of my hatred of chemicals so you don't need to worry!!! But - i am tired quite a bit and do naturally have low blood pressure so was hoping some folic acid and/or iron could boost my body in preparation for trying to get pregnant.
It's a tricky one - I want to do whats right but also there are so many people saying take this, take this, do this - how do you ever know what to do? Trust your instincts?
Thank you though - I have taken your comments to heart - and I will use them as an argument/reminder when OH says 'come on, just another pizza'!!!!! :rotfl: (unless it's home-made)

My advice is don't get ovulation tests. I bought some after a year of trying. Got a postive result, which I was pleased about, but then still didn't get pregnant. Went to doctors a few months later who said " I hope you haven't been buying those tests". I said I had once and she said "don't bother, they just stress you out more". And from what I've seen, she was right. Just 'do it' (!) every other day and you will hit the right time. I know people will disagree with me and that's fine but I think they make you become too obsessed, doing it regularly but not every day will ensure it happens. The day I went to the GP I had actually bought some more and had done one that morning. On her advice, I binned them. I got pregnant two days later.
I bought the pregnacare vitamins, again, after a year of trying. Get them on Amazon, half the price of Boots. Not sure if it was them or it was psychological, but I didn't care if they worked for me. My advice would be just don't get obsessed with it, don't do pregnancy tests every month or until you're at least a few days late and the Poundland ones do work :-)
Someone else has probably answered this but yes you can still get the changing bag, I bought one small pack of Pampers for around £3.70 and got the bag free.
Good luck with everything, just enjoy it, and if it doesn't happen one month, then have a cry then have a big glass of wine and make nice plans with your OH that weekend and do stuff you wouldn't be able to do if you have kids. That's what we did. It was very hard at times but we tried to make the best of it.
And agree with Becca, come off the pill as soon as possible, it took a year for me to get regular again which I think was part of the problem

Although not buying ov sticks because they can make you more stressed may be true, if you don't have textbook cycles (which many women don't) it can actually make it less stressful.
I have PCOS and without ov sticks would never have known if/when I ovulated and when to expect my period. That would (and did!) make me very stressed as once my cycle hit the magical 29th day, I presumed it had worked when really, I hadn't even ovulated and as I wasn't tracking it I had no idea that this was the case.
So while I agree that they can make things more stressful, if you have been trying for a few months with no success, it's worth a tryFirst baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/140 -
Although the ovulation sticks aren't great for when ovulating, I found you could use them as pregnancy tests too. (99p shop had a pack of 5 ovulation tests or 3 pregnancy). Because the hormone is the same or similar (can't remember), it doubles up

I find it very offensive that you have made the assumptions. Yes I am young, however not in my teens. I have also been saving all my life, putting most of my earnings and all gifted money into a savings account to start a family so I do have a "buffer" probably a lot more than most people who are 10 years older than me that perhaps you would consider a more "appropriate" age. I am in a long term committed relationship. I already have a lot of baby and children's things due to being in the early years profession. NOT that any of that is your business. Do not judge a book by its cover.
I am sorry to be blunt, but I believe your comment was quite rude and judgemental. Please do not treat me as if I am some dumb teenager trying to get on MTV.Started comping October 2012, Wins so far - 1Xbook, 1xMoam Stripes, 1XYoomi feeding set and little lamb0 -

I would start to keep a eye out for deals with asda morrisons etc, for the big baby deals. You can get highchairs and travelcots for around £25 each which is a lot more reasonable than some of the bigger "baby" stores. And Jack and Jill sales are good for second hand bits and pieces and NCT sales as well.0
