Options
I am planning on getting pregnant in the near future, and I want to be prepared money saving style!

Is there a list anywhere of all the free samples you can get etc, such as joining boots baby club or pampers club etc?

Also anything which is helpful for pregnant/new mum/new baby

Please tell me if you know of any!

Thank you!!

    Hey lampshadebrown

I am my OH are also preparing to get pregnant so I will be watching this with interest! I was on gum tree the other day looking to see how cheap I could get cots and prams etc!! You can get some good things very cheap and always in good condition-probs cause they grow so quickly!!!! But I am thinking of splashing out on the pregnacare conceive tablets for me and the OH. Anyone know if they're worth the money to boost my folic acid levels and other vitamins?

I know boots baby club do a free baby bag-I'm sure someone can confirm this?? :)

    Hugs

Agreed see the Pregnancy post. A word of advice though, don't stock up on loads of Pregnacare etc. If you have bad morning sickness you'll struggle to keep them down. (if that is the case I found Boots folic acid & Vit D combined tablets are little enough to swallow easily)
Oh and buy only what you need & Good Luck.

  • Don't bother with ovulation tests, complete waste of money is my opinion. I paid £15 for a pack cos it was buy 1 get 1 free, which = 10 tests.

The 1st mth I used them apparently I didn't ovulate, funnily enough I ended up having my period. 2nd mth decided against using them as found the 'your not ovulating' result too upsetting, I ended up falling pregnant....

I did take folic acid though for the recommended 3 mths before you start trying, I started taking that as soon as I came off the pill and then continued taking it for the 1st 3 mths of my pregnancy.

The only vitamin I take is vitamin D as my midwife said I didn't need to take anything else.

You do get a free changing bag with the boots club, its when you buy some nappies, I got it the other week.

Emma's diary is also another one i signed up for you, you get some offers and coupons etc that come in handy.

We bought our whole nursery set 2nd hand for only £90, it's a cot bed and set of drawers with a changing table on top. My inlaws were against us having 2nd hand, but were then impressed when we went to look at it as you wouldn't know it was 2nd hand.

We got bedding, curtains, floor rug, curtain tie backs, pictures for the wall with it as well. I found that on a local selling site for my area on fb, so definitely loads of ways to find stuff.

Just to add, sounds like Diamond's issue with ovulation tests were caused by user error rather than a poor product. If you don't know what you're doing it's easy to misinterpret and get things wrong. Also paying £15 for 10 ov tests is a waste of money - you can buy 50 strips to circa £3 from ebay, for example.

To fall pregnant the second month of trying is fortunate. Not everyone is so lucky and ovulation tests can be invaluable to a lot of couples.

Me & Dh had been trying for over 6 months with no success, the first month we used ovulation sticks was the month I got pregnant, turned out I was ovulating far later than we'd ever thought.

Ovulation sticks are definitely worth a go - don't just test around 2 weeks into your cycle and get disheartened if you get negative results. Keep testing. So many people stop testing too early and then think they are not ovulating. I always used the cheap strips from eBay but also used Clearblue digital ovulation tests when I thought I had a positive on the cheap ones, just to double check.

If you're on the pill, I would suggest coming off it ASAP as it can take a while to leave your system.

Oh dear cottage retreatist, you must be so careful about what you put in your body pre pregnancy. With the least chemicals in your body as possible you will avoid ADD and other problems. Make sure that you don't eat any food that you don't understand the ingredients for. It is all full of horrible food colouring and flavour that will be illegal in 15 years, but right now its all we eat!!! Be safe and keep our future well and ready for success!
