After tax and NI how much difference is there between what you would receive at minimum wage and the total amount of benefits you receive?
well I only get £71.70 a week so you tell me

35 hours at 6.19 it take home £216.63

Like I say I and many ONLY get £71.70 so yeah its a lot more to get paid for the job.

Yeah and theres lots of people who have worked for for years and years and through no fault of their own have been made redundant and cant get a job because they are seen as been too old ect.

I do not know all the statistics and just speaking from my own personal circumstance. In my area (Lincolnshire/S Humberside) there are jobs for anyone, no matter how old.

I would find it very hard to believe someone would be unemployed for more than a year here, which aparently has a high unemployment rate.

Without going too off-topic to the original poster. If you can find even a factory job through an agency, that would offer you more breaks, pay and opportunities than some Jobcentre work program.

If people were just given a proper paid job through a job creation scheme then they would be able to contribute once more properly.
or out of work too long or over experienced

My niece lives in South Lincolnshire and has been job hunting for over a year, you will actually find while Lincolnshire also has very high unemployment rates it also has few employment opportunities and vacancies.

Perhaps you could direct her to one of the coastal resorts? They are always looking for seasonal workers.

At the factory where I work, there was a few people from the job centre who worked basically for free (apart from their JSA)

They worked a 40hr week, 6-2. A small number were offered a permanent position, good for them.

However, I personally would not work a 40 hour week for nothing.

LOL you know nothing at all.

No one in a factory is going to give an interview to AAT qualified accounts people.

I can not even get an interview for an accounts junior as I have too much experience and they say I will leave as soon as something else comes along!

You are the type that thinks people like me thinks yippee when they get made redundant and think oh that's ok I wont get £600 a week anymore the $71.70 is just great, thanks!

I know nothing at all about factory work but ask yourself this is they were working there FREE and only a FEW got jobs after a year why was that? Must have all been good enough to work for FREE!

You're wrong. I know several people with qualifications far higher than AAT that work in factories. You need to learn how to sell yourself according to the position.
