All I can say is we were getting hit with a lot of spam that used the acute lower case to avoid the spam filter, so we filtered it and it stopped.

We never added any of the others as, to my knowledge, we weren't getting hit with spammers using anything else, or certainly nothing to that level that we spotted a trend in.

If we're getting hit with spam from any of the other letters you state, let me know and we would be happy to add them. There was nothing much else to it than that.

No probs. We're looking at the bigger picture right now, but as we go through this process we will start to get into more specific bits and pieces.

Errata

Could the word censor be tweaked? There are some words that it !!!! out which are explicit, innocuous and useful; for instance -

F e c k l e s s
1590–1600; orig. Scots, equivalent to !!!!, late Middle English ( Scots ) fek, aphetic form of ef!!!! ( Scots form of effect) + -less

If it made it into the swear filter, it's usually because it caused us an ongoing resource problem of people using it in the incorrect context, for spam or other such reasons.

If words were used in their correct context, it wouldn't have come to our attention.

can I just say that on my screen the thanks and spam buttons are at opposite ends of the row of buttons.

One thing I would like to 'lose' if possible is the drop down menu that appears when you hover the mouse over the multi-coloured bar just below the banner, I can see the point of having it on the main site but not the forum.

I'm not sure I understand your response. If I use the word in it's correct context, for example "People who leave litter on beaches and in the countryside are being !!!!less" why would the swear filter consider it to be incorrect use?
