To support what others have said Boston is a great city- I like that it is older than a lot of US cities and a bit more historical. I've done a fair bit of travel in the US and Boston, NYC and San Francisco are my top 3 cities.
Washington is good too- tons of museums etc.
That's good to hear I can't wait, nothing is booked yet planning first probably book in the coming weeks, hopefully if BA have a sale
Regards to Washington what museums to do people reccomended is there any you deffo reccomended seeing

Hi everyone
I'm going to New York June 2014 and will be booking soon, I'm also wanting to take in 2 other cities ideally Chicago 3 nights, New York 5 nights and Washington 3 nights
I'm not sure if Chicago and Washington are the ones to do or are there any other good reports of others nearby.
I've done LA, Vegas and San Francisco so want to stay near or around New York
I'm happy to fly or bus/metro between the cities
Will 3 nights be enought time in Chicago and Washington
After some advice please
Regards
Kev
Each to their own, of course, but it seems strange to go to a country the size of America and confine yourself to cities.
New York, Boston,Chicago and Washington are all interesting cities in their own right but to combine a number of them in one trip without venturing further afield seems very constricting.
It would be like an American visiting the UK and just going to London. Manchester and Glasgow.
To me the States is the perfect country for a road trip - why not do New York and hire a car to drive up to Boston,Maine,New England and see life out of the city and off the interstate ?0 -

DH loved the Air & Space Museum but for me The National Archive, seeing the Declaration Of Independence and the Constitution Documents, was far more interesting. I also loved seeing inside the Library of Congress.

Remember that New York to Chicago is about a thousand miles, so combining the two in a short trip is like going to Barcelona for a week and taking a couple of days out of that to visit Prague! Quite possible with flights, but not what I would do.
The train ride from New York to either Washington or Boston is about four hours (but in opposite directions). I found both New York and Boston to be both fascinating and very enjoyable destinations, but have not yet made it to Washington. Do be aware that train tickets are only cheap if booked a very long time in advance: walk-on fares are a good deal more expensive than flying.
As posted above, remember that there is a lot more to the USA than the big cities. The countryside is a real delight, and from experience you get better views from a train than from a car or bus. However, see if you can arrange a visit to a rural area and a bit of walking: otherwise you miss out on an important part of what the USA has to offer.0 -
Yes I realise now that's why I've decided on doing Chicago another time
I've price up the train and for a single it's $49 which is a good price but like you say ill have to maybe book them fairly early but I'm definitely doing it by train rather than air as like you say 4 hour journey isn't too bad but the views should be great
I will look at countryside also, do you have any suggestions

Rail fares depend upon how far in advance you book; your class of travel; the time of day; as well as the speed and comfort of the train (I think that all trains in all classes are more comfortable than most trains in Britain). You might like to read what The Man in Seat 61 says about the subject (Google for his website).
For countryside, borrow a guide book from your local public library or contact a tourist office (don't forget that tourism promotion is done by individual State and Counties as well as the USA as a whole, and generally is done very well).0
