Children smoking shisha

Regular poster but i'm hiding behind a new user name.

A friend of mine is currently on her family holiday/honeymoon in Turkey. She has been posting photos on facebook and some of them include her children smoking from a shisha pipe, she was quick to add that it's herbal. Her children are 14,11 and 6.

I was absolutely horrified but other people were just adding jokey comments about how her children look stoned and how they are naturals etc. It may be herbal but surely there are still dangers? I did google and it brought up a million and one contradicting answers. I feel like the odd one out being shocked by it!

Your friend sounds like a total moron.

I am beginning to agree, she is more a friend of a friend, I got invited to the wedding and her eldest 2 were drinking alcohol most of the day.

Ive seen kids smoking shisha on fb pics, one of my mums friends, the mum is Muslim and when they went to London on holiday the kids were smoking shisha, the girl must have been about 12

You may be right to be shocked, but really, its not much to do with you.

Wow. I was well over 20 before trying it and I'd be mortified if someone let my (not yet born) offspring smoke it until they knew the risks themselves.

  • Is that like a bong? Do the natives smoke shisha pipes at such a young age, then, or just the children of clueless tourists :rotfl:

Well obviously. I haven't gone running up to her telling her she's a crap parent. 90% of the threads on here would fall under the 'it's not much to do with you' statement though.

I don't think children under 16 should be smoking sheesha, its fruit flavoured tobacco and tobacco is known to be harmful. You have to be 16 here in the UK to smoke it not sure about Turkey.

I don't know what she means by herbal, is she implying its ok because they aren't smoking drugs?

Im a stop smoking advisor for my local NHS service and we have just recently had training on Shisha as its becoming for popular with the student population of our city. Alot of people who smoke Shisha dont actually consider it smoking however it is just as bad even though there isnt all the harmful tar and addictive nicotine in it.

Anything that burns gives off carbon monoxide, this makes your blood thick and sticky, increases your heart rate (as it has to work harder to pump blood around your boday) and can cause cirulation problems like pins and needles in hands and feet.

People who smoke cigarettes can have a large amount of this in their bodies, people who smoke canabis have even more in their bodies as they inhale harder and people who smoke shisha can have dangerous amounts in their bodies as one session of shisha is equivalent to smoking 100 cigarettes.

Also what people dont realises is the shisha pipe is passed from person to person, not steralised and can actually cause Herpes.

I pesonally think children should be kept away from anything like this, if as adults they want to smoke it then thats their choice as long as they know all the facts.

There isn't nicotine? I thought there was?
