My meal planner is coming together for this week and looks something like this: -

Tonight: Beef Madras curry (home made) chips
    Weds: Stir fry
    Thursday: beef madras curry +
    Friday: fajitas
Saturday: Mexican burger and sweet potato wedges
    Sunday Beef Ghou lash
    Monday ?
    Tuesday: Beef Ghou lash

As for the beef ghou lash, its a hairy bikers recipe which includes peppers. Would it be ok to use frozen peppers or would the dish taste better if I use fresh?

Changing the subject, I bought the better than half price deal on cheese in Mr T - not my favourite but good price and hard to resist. As its only me that eats cheese, I thought I might portion up and freeze - would it be best to grate and freeze or cut into portions and freeze? and what best to freeze in? Thanks.

Have a good day all x

I use frozen peppers, I must be honest they are not as nice but they are cheaper and no waste as you only take out what you need.

Most of the vegetables I eat are frozen, think they are an acquired taste but you do get used to it. Being only two of us it works out alot cheaper as I can just cook two bits of broc, two of calui, etc so we get more variety and no waste.

I got that cheese as well, we eat a lot of cheese so I got two packets :) have you checked the BBD cheese lasts a along time and is fine to eat even after that date.

Did my shopping for the week late last night. Got quite a few YS bargains so the total shop was 22.38p. That should last us until next Monday with things from the freezer. I'm really quite pleased and feel as if my shopping habit is getting under control.

Started to copy and paste quite a few recipes from this thread into a folder. There are some really good ones - I like the latest chocolate/choc sauce - thanks
  • Sorry haven't updated this week but everything as gone t*ts up. Our house got flooded on Friday evening, lost most of down stairs, including carpets, sofa, washing machine etc.....

I get a big wedge of cheese when its on offer when they slice it on the deli it never seems the same. I grate and freeze just because i eat too much.

  • Off course, its super easy got the recipe out of a student cookbook.

    Sauce
    2 tablespoons cocoa powder
50g brown sugar (I use white)
    250ml boiling water

    Pudding
    75g marg or butter, softened
75g brown sugar (again I just use white)
    65g self raising flour
    3 tablespoons cocoa powder
    3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon baking powder (I use a bit extra)

    -Heat oven gas 4 / 180c
-To make sauce, put cocoa and sugar into bowl and mix in boiling water until smooth
-To make pudding, put all ingredients into a bowl and beat together until smooth
    - Spoon pudding mix into a greased dish, then pour sauce over top. Bake in oven for 15 mins until sauce has sunk to the bottom and pudding has risen.

Enjoy, Its lovely served with ice cream.
15 mins does not seem long to cook a sponge mixture.

I find that cheese is too crumbly to grate after freezing. Best to grate before putting in freezer or I just chop up the crumbly bits - makes it almost like grated.
