(I couldn't find the Nick Nairn recipe online - copyright issues maybe? but this one is the same/very similar. The BBC Good Food ed is credited though.). Hope you enjoy it!

Thank you. I tried one today for Onion marmalade, but yet to taste it. Six onions wilted down to nothing! Will try this one :)
Tried Meg's trick with the onions in the micro and it worked a treat. So easy to peel and chop that way.

  • over spent again although some of the spends was due to sending son back to uni with food! Spend was 575. Its because husband keeps popping to the local supermarket and spending £20 on yellow stickered products. I will have to speak to him again!

He was facing redundancy so I was trying to cope on my salary but he hasnt really got onboard. Redundacy threat has passed for the time being but I think it will be back next year.

Im off to the october board for inspiration

  • Morning all!! Been AWOL for the past few days as been having a very stressful week with returning to work after being off sick and my Mum has been incredibly ill and hospitalised for most of the week :( Thankfully she is back home now and is slowly getting better :)
Despite all that, I've managed to resist going to the shops for junk food and/or getting takeaways and just bought milk on Friday when I needed it, so I've managed to just about come under budget at £39.86/£40!!! So happy!!! Almost blew it last night when the chicken casserole I got out of the freezer for tea was very iffy and I had to bin it, but again I resisted the urge to get takeaway and had a quick meal of noodles with a stir fry sauce that was lurking at the back of the cupboard :)
I've been absolutely determined to stick to the budget this month as I knew that if I failed in my first month, I just wouldn't bother to try again in October. Thanks for all the support and ideas, and I hope to see you all over on the October thread!! :D

  • So my last post was at £222.60. Since then I went to morrisons for the Sunday joint - a huge beef one at £11.21. It was delicious yesterday and there is loads left. I then spent £17.40 in Aldi on veggies, milk, cream and eggs. So that brings me in at £251.21 for September. Not bad for a beginning - and I have learned that I need to plan ahead more and keep away from the shops. :)

However, although the freezer is full I now find my stores are running low. I am sticking with £250 for October.

Declaring a total of £361.87/£340 for September.

    See you all in October!
  • I have come in £4.50 over-budget, due in part to having bought a Lurpak limited edition pie dish. I have a similar pie dish that my mum bought me a few years ago, which cost £7 and was smaller than this one, so it seemed too good an offer to pass up!

For anyone else interested, I found the dish in Tesc0, the pack comes with 2 butters (£4 isn't bad for 2 Lurpak butters) and a pie dish.

The good thing is, this weeks shop will cover me for the first week of October, so I should be able to make some savings next month.

thanks for this the pie dish sounds lovely
