    My online shop came today so updating spends of £77.26. Will need squash and bread later in the week and DS2 will have a few school meals but I am hoping that will be it. Here's hoping....

    A quick question for you guys - I have an allotment and have loads of beetroot. If I boil/cook it will it be okay to grate and freeze into portions for soup/tarts etc later in the year? I don't want to pickle or chutney it all as it would be great to make full meals out of it. :) tia

    Joining so I can start properly in October!
    I'm trying to manage on a £20 a week budget, managed most of it today with lots of YS bargains!
    So;
    £11 in coop on mostly reduced items, mince, saucy fish, meatballs, some posh pies, bread, milk, squash, apple custard donuts!
    £7 in lidl on fruit and veg, mozzarella, crisps, ham, chocolate.
    So still £2 for extra milk/bread at the end of the week :)

    Meal plan is;
    Today - pie, mash, carrots and cabbage
    Tues - cottage pie and peas, cabbage.
    Wed - homemade pizzas with various toppings
    Thurs - spaghetti and meatballs
    Friday -smoked fish and wedges or maybe fish pie..
    Sat- savory mince, roast potatoes and roast veggies.
    Sunday - egg, chips and beans

    Lunches will be, soups (homemade tomato and pepper, spicy parsnip) ham sandwiches and possibly leftovers.

    I was just browsing your thread before on DFW, but couldn't offer any different advice than what had been said. Good luckwith your grocery challenge; sounds like you have your head screwed on with meal planning and budget spends in cheaper shops, and finding YS bargains. Have a look at cheapfamiliymeals.org.uk (think it is ... someone will correct me if not). Also, agirlcalledjack. There are many thread's about surviving on £7 on here, and similar. You could probably teach me a thing or two ;)

    I went to the shop before for bread and milk. No 1% milk AGAIN in C*-*p, so will get it from Tesco three for £3. I decided to make do with the bread we have got and instead bought YS pancakes for eldest to have; as she reckons she hasn't time to make toast in the morning, but has 40 mins to do her hair ...hmmm. Also spent £3.25 in Mr M (would have been less if DD2 hadn't been with me ... i got coerced into milkshake and wagon wheels for packed lunches, and some malt loaf !!! she was hungry ... :mad:

  • Any students with NUS card on here? Just been informed co-op now do student discount! 10%. Just thought i'd mention it.

    Need to pop to Mr T's. Out of milk. Out of fry-light (hope its on offer). Need more fruit. Need midget gems....Ok so that last one is a lie BUT i'm treating myself. They only around 30p ;)

    DH has asked if we can have a chinese tonight. I told him we can IF it comes out of this budget. We have £25 left in the budget. Probably spend around £10 tonight. Our meal we get is £10.50. So that would leave us with £4.50 for anything that might run out.... He has done loads of nightshift and loads of overtime so i'm gonna go for it and hope nothing else crops up before Friday (payday). Might buy extra milk tonight and tell the household its gotta last till Friday so i'm not tempted to pop to the shops for the rest of the week :rotfl:

    Hello :T welcome

    I only joined the thread this month and have found it really helpful. I am impressed by your budget and look forward to following your meal plans as I would like to get mine to the same figure as yours. I am currently working on £35 per wk and will stick to that for October as well, but my budget does included toiletries etc as well. Well done on your YS finds, I find them a bit hit and miss and always seem to go at the wrong times :(

  • Reporting a spend of £4.35 tonight, we treated ourselves to a meal in morrisons. Its such a bargain, both of us feed and drinks for £4.35 :) As I can't afford to go to restaurants etc its a treat for ds to go out for a meal.

    Going to Mr T for weekly shop tomorrow will definitely be over budget this week so will have another look at shopping list to see if anything can wait till next week.

    Spent £25.25 today in Tesco, morrisons and home bargains on a variety of things - bargain nappies, yoghurts, cheese, ys sausages, rice, sweet and sour sauce. Basically restocking some bits and getting some fresh to last (including 1kg of grapes!). I need to get dog food but can see this week being under budget (but my OH is on a weeks holiday from work so won't hold my breath!).

    Off to update my sig :) hope we're all well.
