Syphoning fuel

Can't beleive siphoning a tank before a sale. If it's off to the scrapyard or a write off heading to the insurance company than fine.
For the latter I just cut the fuel line in the engine bay, stuffed the offcut into a hose to a can and then jumpered the fuel pump relay.0 -

It's more the risk thing. My method meant the car would need some work before it ever drove again (not an issue for a write off) and if you're going to be draining the tank from underneath you'll be really annoyed if you end up damaging the thread or something and needing a new fuel tank.
Are you cashing in the road tax too?0 -

Really? Am sure cutting the petrol pipe as per your tip is pretty safe!!
Not cashing road tax.

If you put in the listing that it had half a tank, I honestly think it might fetch a little more - people are considering their overall budget when buying off ebay. And that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -
Could you not go do some evening pizza deliveries? you will get paid to use the fuel up then, and will get a discount pepperoni too so win-win! :rotfl:0

There's moneysaving and then there is removing the lightbulbs when you sell a house hah hah
My thoughts exactly. I hope this is a seriously cheap car!
Interesting thread though, as I hadn't realised that the anti-syphon 'mechanism' was as simple as a mesh to stop you putting a tube in. Obvious now I think about it!0 -
If the syphon tube is long enough, it's perfectly ok to do by mouth.
Outside the tank needs to be twice as long as inside, suck until it's half way to you, then lower the whole pipe below the level of the tank, with one end in your can.
It works by gravity, if the pipe outside the tank is longer and lower, then once the fuel reaches far enough to be below the level of the tank, it'll just keep flowing.
I've done it countless times and it's done me no harm
Of course if the fuel filter cartridge is next to the fuel tank instead of under the hood, you could disconnect that and get most of the fuel that way.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
