The Kapersky detections - UnsignedFile.Multi.Generic - just mean there's a problem with the file's digital signature... If the file was ever signed at all - many aren't. This isn't necessarily sign of infection. Especially if it's a legitimately named file in the correct path. You can also cross reference them by their md5 earlier in the log.0

I have finally got round to getting an external hard drive and have just backed up the D Recovery and C OS drives. I was surprised that it took less than 50 minutes to back up the C Drive was has 102GB used.
How do I verify that it has backed up successfully? There are 14 files of 4GB which say the are Disk Partition Image for the C Drive.. I haven't clicked to open them in case I mess things up.0 -
backed up with what
you may wish to format the external drive as ntfs, so the backup goes in one file, not 14!!

With Macrium Reflect
I have now formatted as NTFS and backed up again to one file. However I inadvertently backed up the Dell Utility and C drive to the same file. Should I do them again separately? Apologies for the newbie questions, but this is all new to me.
I have backed up the Recovery partition to a separate file.
How to I check that the back up is successful?0 -
Why have you backed up the same problematic install?
Instead I would use the Easy Transfer Wizard to transfer your Files and Settings to the external drive, back up the individual browser profiles/Bookmarks etc, run a Factory Restore or Clean Install(my choice) and then transfer your data back.
Personally I would run a clean install to get rid of all bloat. The machine would run like it never has before.0 -
As I said, this is all new to me and I'm not sure what I am supposed to be backing up so would appreciate some detailed instructions.
Closed has suggested using Macrium Reflect previously so I used that. What is the difference between Macrium and Easy Transfer?
What do you mean by Files and Settings? Is that everything I have created under my user name such as Documents and Pictures? I take it you mean I don't transfer everything on the C drive?
What would I need to do a Clean Install? I have the original Dell Windows DVD.0 -
I haven't ever used Macrium Reflect Free, so have no idea as to whether you can restore individual files and folders or just the whole image.
Clearly you don't want to restore the whole image.0 -

macrium should have told you if it worked or not, see the log
you can click on the img file on the external drive to see whats there, and it does allow you to restore individual files/folder, or individual partitions, or all partitions, provided that you've made the macrum boot cd.
however, if you are planning to factory restore it (windows dvd not needed - machine has a factory partition), the easiest method is to copy the directories you want from c to f:, and keep the img backup in case things go pear shaped!!
