Early neutering in males delays the closing of the growth plates in the long leg bones, making, longer thiner bones, which, it has been found by some studies, can be more prone to ligament injuries, and bone cancer, there also some suggestion it can cause Hip Dysplasia.

In !!!!!es, early neutering can result in an increase of aggression ( progesterone has a lutenising effect, and is also a seratonin uplifter )
It can also result in urinary incontinance.

I'm not against neutering, but I am against early neutering before a dog has a chance to mature, hormones do a helluva lot more than control reproduction.

I think there are a lot of old wives tales when it comes to neutering. As in females needing to have 1 litter of puppies. I've never come across any evidence which agrees with this line of thought.

My dog is a rescue dog & was neutered before he came to live with me. He has never shown any "sexual" type behaviours at all, even when he is been in the company of a female on heat.

He is a happy dog & lives a fulfilled life. That is all anyone could ask for.

    Hi

Just another point that you may not have though of.

Did you sign a contract when you purchased you little love? If so, you will may find it states that you must get him done (often will state an age range too)

This happend with all of the pedigree cats we have - and in two cases the breader phoned the vet to check we had it done!

The earlier you neuter your pet, the better it is for them.

Not true at all. The larger the breed the later it should be neutered. A lot of vets say between 18 months and 2 years is the best

I didn't explain myself properly. What I meant is: it is better if you get them neutered as soon it is appropriate to do so as it's less traumatic for the animal.

I don't take what vets say as gospel. From experience, there is a differing of opinion between vets. I learnt that when my cat became diabetic.

My vet will not neuter under one year of age, I prefer to wait until my dogs have reached physical maturity, I have toy dogs and do not neuter under 14 months of age, I don't agree that small dogs reach maturity earlier than larger dogs, rather their growth is proportional to size. !!!!!es are just as prone to skeletal misalignment as dogs when neutered early.
Also from what I see on rescue pages the vast majority of dogs needing rehoming are adolescent untrained dogs bought on a whim by fools with no consideration of the needs and responsibilities of dog ownership.
Dog owning is a lifestyle choice, neutering is a topic that deserves careful consideration after all it cannot be undone!!
