LV cancellation fee - whos liable if they cancel
Options
I took out car insurance with LV about a month ago. I paid up front in full.
They have written to me twice asking me for my v5/driving license and no claims proof. I emailed them stating that I'm still waiting for v5 from DVLA. (DVLA have a backlog and LV acknowledged this in their email reply).
They have now sent another letter saying if they don't get the documents within 14 days they will cancel my policy (possibly automated letter).
I know LV have a £75(ish) cancellation fee If I cancel, but can they charge a cancellation fee if THEY cancel the policy?

If they cancel your insurance I wouldn't be worrying about the fee, I would be worrying about declaring you have had a policy cancelled on every insurance quotation/application form from now till the day you die!
Why do they need a V5, this is the log book for the car?
You could call DVLA and ask for a scanned colour copy of the V5, in the meantime call LV and explain whats happening and take a note of their name and the time you called and write to them to confirm the conversation."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
I'd be more worried about telling your next insurer, and every insurer after that, that you've had a policy cancelled. It'll cost you a damned sight more than £75.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Like you say, it's probably automated.
Give them a call but I'm curious to why they would want a copy of the V5 and d/licence.0 -
Yikes, I better get onto them quick then!
Thanks all
EDIT: No idea why they want the v5, is this not standard? They also want my license and no claims.0 -

They do ask people sometimes though, presumably as an anti-fraud measure. It might be standard with some insurance companies for certain groups of customer. Are you in a high risk group - eg are you young, do you live in a "run down" postcode, or do you have an unusual/modified car?0 -
If they turn out to have poor service and the deadline approaches without luck, consider cancelling it yourself and taking the fee on the chin!0

It certainly isn't standard - in 20 years of driving I've never had to send an insurer my driving licence or V5C. More often than not I don't even get asked for proof of no claims.

I'm average, policy costs me £500, I drive a 1.6ltr standard car, decent job, no claims. I used to be with admiral and they never asked me for anything.
I'm on hold with them now... i'll ask lol0 -
I've had to send an insurer a copy of the counter part0

Basically she didn't know much, she said I had to talk to the Policy Authentication Team which are only open 9-5 (not useful!)
I asked if it was standard to send documents or if it was something that needed to be checked specifically on my policy and she said she didn't know.0 -
If a New Keeper Supplement is good enough to tax a car, won't they accept that?0
