That might be true in some (decreasing) number of cases - but most institutions that have such a system (e.g. Paypal) now support the whole process on-line, it's done in a matter of minutes - 48 hours at the outside. I was able to link my Paypal acount (to the same (new) Bank A/C as I requested ICICI to use) in UNDER 5 MINUTES, including full verification.

I finally got the money from ICICI after 28 days (and even then only after the active intervention of a manager in the UK Complaints dept.). I was forced to take out a short-term loan because I was unable to access my money - which ICICI have now also reimbursed the cost of, so the end result at least has a tangible gesture of apology from ICICI.

Whatever way you cut it, denying access to someone's "easy access" money while you take a month to change and verify a simple piece of information is simply not acceptable.

Just look at it the other way round. If I wished to transfer money from my Bank A/C *into* my ICICI HiSave, I would simply type the Acct No / Sort Code into my bank's on-line Payment/Money Transfer screen and the money would be there the next morning, possibly even in the next few minutes..
PayPal's not a savings account, though. I don't dispute that it's much easier to move money into a savings account than out of it, but in my experience this is a true at a lot of savings institutions. From memory, not just ICICI, but Virgin, Tesco, ING Direct and Sainsburys will only let you withdraw money from your savings account to the linked account. It very much has been the norm when I have had a savings account. Again, I am not defending ICICI for taking 28 days to do this - it's unacceptable what you had to go through to get your money.
This is everybody's fault but mine.

Well, ICICI finally completed set-up of my "Linked Account" and enabled on-line money transfers today - a mere 35 days after I requested it, and despite the request being standard/normal in every way.

You're right, Paypal isn't a Savings Account - but the "linked account" mechanism it uses is exactly the same as ICICI and others do - i.e. you must verify ownership of the bank account, and set up a Direct Debit link. Whilst not everyone might be advanced enough to do this all on-line in a few minutes like Paypal do, There's a fundamental problem with dragging it out for 35 days - That's a huge gulf in service standards. A few days is acceptable I suppose (which wouldn't have been an issue for me - not everyone can be "the best") but ICICI are Waaaaaayyyy off the scale !!!!!!

I tried to use their ICICI Bank Travel Money service online to buy some currency. After the order was placed I tried to call them to ask if it was possible to have larger notes. And was told that "It is not possible over the phone, it is not possible online. You get whatever is available".

And there I was thinking that they had a professional service offering. Back to bestforeignexchange for me.
  • ...wish I had read these threads before trying to buy currency from them. Am struggling to know how money can be authorised for payment from my non ICICI current account and yet ICICI can't accept payment from my card???? Feeling very stressed by this. Why is this bank on the money saving website? This is a genuine question as I put my faith in this!

Just spent a frustrating 30 to 45 minutes trying to apply online within their site for a Super Saver Account. Every few minutes I was told to click anywhere on application form to continue and each time all the information I had entered was deleted by their silly system. This happened so many times which impeded my application until finally I was kicked out and invited to start all over again. This I refused to do and sent them a 'stinking' email but on the experience of others in this forum I am unlikely to receive a reply. I only applied as MSE had it as the best interest paying account at this time.
Making it difficult to apply is hardly likely to encourage applicants.

I opened the 1.65% in September and had no problems. Deposits appear as soon as I log out my Halifax current, and withdrawals are fast too. I'll ditch when the rate becomes uncompetitive but have no complaints

Just opened an ICICI SuperSaver account. I had an ICICI account several years ago and the online user interface was the worst I'd ever seen. Sadly it appears that things have not improved, it's truly dire.

stompa i did the same thing. as soon as a higher rate turns up i am leaving. i wish i had never opened another account with them. its not worth the hassle and the polava of trying to get into your account.

i actually haven't even got into this new account yet. signed up 3 weeks ago, they took my initial deposit, and since then have sent me 2,letters and an email telling me that my linked account has been set up and that when my initial deposit has been taken i will be sent a letter with a password to access my account. i emailed them last week but still have no password or email reply. today i received an email telling me my january statement was now online to view.
