  • I started opening an account with ICICI Bank in early August they said I would be sent my password in the post ,it never arrived.I went to their website and found a facility to create a password online,I tried this and it did not recognise my account number or user ID.
I then spoke to them by telephone with great difficulty trying to understand the Indian accent .I have asked them to close my account and repay the thankfully small initial deposit that I have paid to them.
Due to the lengthy delay in opening this account I decided to open an account at Sainsbury's instead which pays a slightly lower rate ,this account was fully operational in 3 days.
I would not recommend ICICI Bank to my worst enemy ,or on second thoughts ,perhaps I would.

Well, they haven't responded to 2 emails asking why they went ahead with my account and took £1 from my bank.

  • While opening my account with them (since closed), they sent me a couple of emails which at first reading appeared to say "we won't open your account until you contact us to confirm these details are correct". After reading more carefully, they actually meant "we're opening your account, but contact us if these details are wrong".

    Interpretation.

I have an account with another Indian Bank.

Can't fault their service but their website and communications are quaint.

The staff I have met have also been very helpful but quaint.

  • I can't even get my account opened. I had the documents certified at the Post Office but received a pre-formatted email that said the documents they received are not certified. I emailed and asked for an explanation but only received a pre-formatted reply. I emailed again and asked for a personalised reply but only get the pre-formatted reply.

I have now complained and given them the options of replying properly or returning my initial deposit.

I can only marvel that some people have actually managed to open account. Amazing...!

This is the kind of behaviour (although I don't think I allowed it to get as far as you did) that put me off.

What a mess around. I will be contacting Halifax bank and tell them I did not authorize this transaction. I also fear they now have my bank details and could take more out. They are also foreign sounding which I feel uneasy about.

As I am on the subject, does anyone know of a decent, trustworthy easy savings account that gives a decent rate ?

No problem with Indian but I prefer my money not to be handled overseas and patchy correspondence in broken English.
