e.on asked my neighbours about me

The best option for you would be FuelDirect. That way they will take your consumption amount plus a small amount ( I think £3.60 per week) for your arrears out of your benefits. This way you do not get further into debt.
If you have the prepayment meter fitted you can self regulate as it makes you think more about how much you are using but as you say your husband would have to check what is on the meter periodically. The difference between the 2 is the first is a fixed rate till assessment, the second fluctuates depending on the time of year.
I can understand why they are not willing to accept the amount you offered. How long has the debt built up? Add this to your monthly amount to see how much you should have been paying and you would then have to pay your arrears on top of this. Although your payment amount was set too low it was also your responsibility to check the bills to make sure they were correct.
I can also understand the reason why they asked about your health. They have a duty of care towards vulnerable customers to make sure they can top up. As your husband is able to do this they would be able to continue down the debt process to warrant level.Make your decision soon so that you do not incur extra charges from them.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
Of course they should not have asked neighbours about you. But short of complaining to them about it, its not going to alter the issue of a card meter. "I cannot have a card meter installed, because one of your employers asked a neighbour about me." is not really going to achieve anything in the way of satisfaction.
I have complained to them about it.0 -
If you have a prepayment meter installed you can repay your arrears interest free at less than £4 a week.
If you want to pay by payment card on your current meter then, yes, you will have to commit to pay a reasonable monthly amount for arrears and ongoing usage. Or you can take them off your benefits directly. You do not seem to want any of these - you are more interested in making excuses.
If you do not want to commit to paying £100 every month (fair enough) then get a prepayment meter fitted. But do it now at their request to avoid several hundreds of pound of charges for a court order to be added.
You only have agoraphobia - not innumeracy, not social irresponsibility, not sociopathy. Choose a method that can allow you to pay for the energy you want to consume.
I am not making excuses, i have offered to change the standing order to £70 a month which they are willing to accept if i let them take it from my ESA but not willing to accept if i pay by standing order.
I told them i could do that today so its paid right away instead of waiting for a form but they refused.
I find the comment of you 'only' have agoraphobia insulting, i have not left my home alone for over 9 years and have other mental health illnesses.
I am in debt to e.on as they underestimated the monthly payments not because i have refused to pay, i have paid them the amount they asked for every month.0 -

So you were paying £60 - they agreed to let you pay £85 - you turned this down - that is close to the minimum amount you pay for arrears in any case (£25) and probably the same extra that the electricity have asked for. So you are making a lot of fuss over nothing.
Of course they should not have messed about with your neighbours - but you should not have messed them about and should have chosen an option to pay your bills. £85 is hardly that much - you do receive two lots of disability on top of the ESA.
I turned down £85 as i do not have a spare £85.
And no £25 is not what i pay the electric as they sent me a means form and i showed what i had coming in and going out.
I dont call a gas company questioning my neighbours about my health making a fuss about nothing, they were given personal confidential information.0 -

I have no idea how long the debt has built up for and i could not keep an eye on it as they never sent me bills, i just pay the standing order a month, i cant even take a meter reading since they put the meter outside.0 -
How long have they supplied you without billing you and how many payments have you made of £60? Was there a reason your husband could not take a meter reading?Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Thier are two issues here the gas man asking questions - and the money.
Taking out the gas man, basicly your saying you can't afford to pay Eon what they want but thing is your using thier service so they want paying!!
I suggest not using your eletric so much or finding a way to cover your expences...
Putting it up to £70 a month as you suggested probally doesn't cover your bill since you have gone so much over due on £60 and would probally contine to build on £70 a month..so thats probally why they are putting thier foot down with you.
I think you need to accept you owe this money and try and find a way of paying it back - either by cutting down or paying more up front. You will only end up in court in the long run if you don't.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
Put it another way... £500 over budget over three years ( we obvouisly don't know how long this has gone on for but will it be more then three years?)
Is £13 extra you are using then you are paying a month so you are using £73 a month...now you have the £500 to pay back...say you did it over three years...and paid £86 back. (£13 a month for a £500 debt over 3 years)
Thats still three years to clear the debt...thats based on them not doing your meter readings for 3 years...and then it would still only go down to £73 a month thats like worse case scenio...
You can kick up a fuss about what the gas man should or should not do but it doesn't change the fact you owe this money.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
I am not sure if Eon do the on- line top dongle to allow you to top up the prepay in the house, but BG and Scot Power do. when you get your debt to less than £400 you would be able to switch supplier.0
