Bennetts insurance charges

I have just called Bennetts to tell them I will be moving house and asked for my home address to be changed for their benefit more than mine. The 'person' took down the house number and new post code (not a massive amount of work) and then told me there would be a £30.00 admin fee to make the change. ON A POLICY THAT ONLY COST £46 FOR THE YEAR. Watch out people and avoid these if you can. :mad::mad::mad:

Its usual I;m afraid, most insurance companies charge a standard admin fee. It will be in your terms and conditions

Hastings Direct charge £35. They did spell out the charges at the start of the policy, and I know I'll have to pay when I move, but that's what they charge.

If you have a suspicion you may need a mid-term alteration, it can often be smarter to buy more expensive cover where there are no alteration fees, rather than buy the comparison site's cheapest option where you can guarantee every last penny has been stripped out to get to the top, or bottom, as the case may be...

How do you come to that conclusion? Admin fees are nothing other than a nice little earner for the greedy, misleading and disingenuous.

The administrators exist to run the business; why should we pay them twice?

Because the ombudsman accepted a £50 fee and some charge up to £75 (maybe more).

If you go for the cheapest online quote it's YOUR responsibility to check what the fees are. If you think there's a chance you will be moving in the next 12 months, or if you may be changing your car or adding another driver etc. then you need to consider these factors when looking at the prices.

It's like bank accounts or credit cards - the cheapest deal may not be that good for you if you never use the ovedraft or pay your debt off in full each month.

The 'cheapest quote' aspect doesn't come into it. Insurers that charge higher premiums still load them up with so-called admin fees because it is an easy way to get extra money for nothing.

It isn't realistic to anticipate if you might move home, add another driver etc because we're not clairvoyant. Life brings unavoidable changes; why should you pay twice to make simple adjustments?
