Can't decide on a name for my newborn son
Comments

Emma -our register office sends lists of the top 50 names in the town over the past 6 months to the local maternity hospital. At the side they tell you how many children have been named that. It is updated each month. Whilst my town has usually the same names in as the national one, it isnot in the same order. Might be worth asking if your town also offers this, if you prefer not to go for a highish one. My kids name are towards the bottom and around the 50ish mark (and have been since they were born) and though they are the only children in that year with those names, there are children in other years with the same names.great thread, im expecting a girl in 12 weeks time and we have three names in mind, but will wait to see the baby before we decide for definate.
we have stopped telling ppl our ideas for names as they always have some comment or other and i think its our decision not theirs and no1 would even comment if we had already named our baby.
just looked and our names are in the 30ush zone of most popluar 2006. is that too high do you think? one of the names wasnt even on, maybe we will opt for that!0 -

Just wanted to say a BIG WELL DONE to everyone for not breaking this down into a HOW COULD YOU:eek: type discussion, and instead just letting the OP know what she asked in the first place. Well done, even to the ones whose kids name choices I didn't even know existed.:o (sheletered life I lead!)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

This thread has been an interesting read, having just found out I'm having a boy :j
It is so hard to choose, knowing that it's forever (well except for Freedom's mum!).
We both really like Jacob, but it would be shortened to Jake and my step-brothers first son is called Jake so that's out...
Also Alex, but probably too popular... Isaac, maybe, I like it more than OH does. Jared, possibly. Jonah or Jonas again we both love but is this getting popular? Also not sure about people shortening it to Joe.
I love Conor, OH hates it
That's as far as we get, then we go around in circles.. and this is with 3
baby name books...
My DS(3) is an Alexander James or AJ for short. I never liked the name Alex (and it really doesn't suit him anyway) as it was becoming common when he was born so i have always stuck with his full name. I also loved the name Isaac and Jacob but my xH hated them. They are still on my shortlist for the next LO.................0 -
I have one daughter, Lottie and one son, Noah......I actually found my son easier to name!!!!
Good luck Happysad with whatever you choose and don't forget to tell us what your choice is!!! I for one am desperate to know

1 tip when naming the child
make sure you say the name out loud. first & last particularly & also with the middle names. We loved the name Jacob but our surname begins with a B & it was too much of a mouthful, the amount of people who said oh Jacob is a lovely name though. It wasn't until I said to them now say it with our surname that they realised why it wasn't an option.
hugs

Another little tip i was told, stand in the middle of your lounge and shout the name out. If you feel silly saying it then its clearly not the one.
I had my heart set on Alexander for this wee man til i heard a man shouting it out in the swimming pool one day and i instantly hated it. Not sure if it was the accent we have or what but it totally put me off.Bringing up 2 handsome boys and 1 gorgeous girl the MSE way!Joseph born 19th December 2001Matthew born 8th August 2007Tara born 23rd January 20110 -

It's actually quite an old name, it's on Gone with the Wind. I don't know what it is, I've just always loved it.If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in
