Can't decide on a name for my newborn son

When I was having my second child, we weren't sure on a boy's name at all. Although we both really liked Thomas , it is so popular that we didn't really want to go for that, especially as I have an extremely common surname.
But when he was born he was so obviously a Tom, so we called him Tomas, just to make it a bit different. It really, really suits him and I am so glad that I didn't choose something a bit more unusual because I was afraid of being common!0 -
i am so picky with names... its a nightmare
if i said what i actually think about most peoples choices i think i would offend 3/4 of this thread! (but im far too nice for that
)
im a member of a mostly american pregnancy forum and the names they all like are appalling! i think every other child born in the usa this year is going to be called Kaydence, Eden or Bijou, the poor kids....
my only advice is unless you absolutely have too dont pick anything too popular no matter how its spelt, your lovely individual child will be known throughout his school career as Jack 1, 2 or 3, or be more well known by thier surname...
having said that, we have really struggled to pick a boys name... (they just dont come as easily as the girls) and have picked a name that happens to be in the top 20, but i only know one other kid with that name and he is 16 now!
all the boys round here have "trendy" old mens names
jack, billy, alfie, charlie etc *yawn*0 -
I used to go out with a guy called Tom Bowler... what on earth were his parents thinking!!0

random letters - honey just because they may seem weird to you do not mean that they are, Britain is multicultural and people who many not be English (such as myself) may not see these names as wierd, in actual fact, some are very, very common - maybe you need to open your eyes0 -
If I ever had any more I like Noah, Daniel or Zachery
I've got a Zachery:D . I can totally recommend the name. Though the more common spelling is Zachary, I prefer it with the 'e'.
I'm also fussy with names and I think it is far easier to name your first child as the names of your other children have to 'go' with it. I've got a boy and a girl and if I have a boy next it will be so hard to name him, I don't think there are as many boy names as girls and it's more difficult to name them something unusual.0 -
I think it is far easier to name your first child
thats definitely right in my case, i always knew, even from when i was little that i wanted a girl called Rebecca, so that was a no brainer!
mind you... even at delivery we still didnt have a definate boys name... i could not concentrate on picking one, maybe deep down i knew i wouldnt need it and not being able to pick was some sort of intuition!
the only thing i couldnt decide on was a middle name...
we got it down to Rebecca Catherine or Rebecca Kate (we settled on the former) and despite them both being long names it flows beautifully even with her difficult surname.
and she mostly gets called Becca (never becky) Boo, Bobbins or "that little %@!$&*^%££%&" (only out of ear shot though
.... shes 7, and good at it) 0 -

We have 5 weeks to go until the arrival of baby no. 1 - still no names either!
Try http://www.behindthename.com/
Say you want to name baby after a family member like George but want to be a bit different, type in George, hit search and at the side of the meaning, click on "related names" and you can see which names are associated with it.
Hope that helps a bit & good luck0 -
I know someone who called their baby Paddy!

I like strong, traditional names names for boys, ours were both girls. At hte last minute, we decided on the names Matthew and Marcus, in case we needed them.
These are the boys names that are popular around my way:
Joshua (none from council estates that I know of)
Alexander (there are 3 in my daughters class, plus one Alexandra!!)
George
Finlay
Harry
James/Jamie
William
Nicholas
Oliver
Laurence
Matthew
Robert
Benjamin
Elliott
Harvey
Jack/Jake
Cameron
Connor
Some of the other boy's names in their classes are Jacob, Joseph, Rowan, Phillip, Timothy, Christian, Hasan, Nelson, Rory, Henry, Austin, Jacob.
Hope this helps.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
