They should be licensed with the local council so if you go to the council and make a complaint they apparently have the power to fine or to revoke the licence.

I'd be looking to cause as much trouble as possible for them in addition to reclaiming my costs, if I were you.

Accidents do happen, it's how they are resolved that is important. Mutt was given a toy she shouldn't have had in kennels, despite my written instructions and became ill. The owner took responsibility, paid all the vets bills and took steps to ensure it didn't happen again. Your kennel owner is talking out of her behind.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

The lady at the kennels took my dog to the vets and signed the consent form, I also have a copy if this agreement, she says as soon as I left her premised with my dog, its my responsibility.

So she, not you, left her premises with your dog? And did the consent form say who was going to pay, because surely she couldn't sign for you to pay?!

I do hope puppy recovers well.

I would be very concerned that the puppy might've been kicked or something similar. As Spacey says above, it does take extreme force to break a puppy's leg so severely.

    Speak to a solicitor.

    Hope the pup's ok

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I wouldn't dream of putting our dog in a kennel, unless it was a real emergency. He is part of the family and deserves a holiday as much as anyone else. Anyway a holiday just wouldn't be the same without my dog with me.

    seriously unhelpful post.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties with the kennel, I'd be really upset. Can I just ask though why you didnt have pet insurance as everyone with animals knows how expensive vet care is especially for dogs?
I'd go to see a solicitor and see if you could sue the kennel owners.

I hope your dog has a speedy recovery.

Dont think OP has said one way or another whether they personally have insurance or not.

Just that the kennels didnt have adequate insurance and that they think the kennel should be footing the bill.

So is yours, but at least I recognise that you too are entitled to your opinion. But I have deleted part of my post.

EDIT: Do you actually do anything to help dogs (not just your dog, other dogs)? As well as donate to the Last Chance Rescue and the Dogs Trust, I work as a volunteer as a home checker and this is why I only work part time as a lecturer. Giving up my time rather than just money is much more difficult but more rewarding.

Sorry to hear about your last dog, how are things working out with your new dog?

Thanks, it hurt really deeply when we lost Mills, he passed away while I was stroking him, we called the vet to our house to put him to sleep.

We were going to wait a while before getting another dog but I just couldn't stand coming home to an empty house or getting up in the morning without him waiting at the bottom of the stairs for me. Ozzie was a real handful at first, he is only 2.5 years old and a lab but this is his third home! He had not been taught any rules and jumped up at everyone and onto furniture, he was really manic. But after 2 months of settling in and training he has now been transformed and for the first time in his life is now having fun off lead. Usually in very isolated places both running and cycling with us, but we hope to expand this to more public places like the park as he can now mix with other dogs and people.

    The poor puppy.

A couple of things worth bearing in mind. The puppy might well have been a show champion potential, but nothing is set it stone, you never know till they are grown how they will grow. My 'pick of the litter' is looking at being neutered any the end of the year because as he has started to mature I feel he has neither the temperament nor breed standard adherence. He has a few months to mature and prove me wrong, but puppy classes certainly wouldn't have seen him do well I think (though its s new breed to me I cannot quite see this is 'great' material for showing despite being the breeder's pick. :). He is still gorgeous, and still absolutely beloved. IMO his value, the value of all our dogs, is as a pedigree pet until proven ptherwise, rather than the other way around.

Secondly, the break is deeply, deeply concerning. And yes, breaks shouldn't just happen. Sometimes they can reveal a weakness or health problem. E.g. My greyhound has broken both back legs, its a reasonably common injury in greys. While this certainly doesn't sound applicable to the OP's puppy it might not have been as brutal as most of us quite normally assume....though it certainly doesn't make sense to rule out the obvious either.

Chuck orris, I am delighted to hear you have a new dog, and a dog who is so obviously in the right home. :)
