Delays - direct to airline, claim on travel insurance or both?

Who do I claim from... Direct to the airline (Monarch and after reading here it will apparently take a while to get not very far!) for both of us or do I claim on our travel insurance policies (we had separate ones) or contact both to make claims? I don't want to commit fraud or anything but have never needed or done this before?!

Depends on what you want to claim for.0

Sorry it was a 24hr delay on the way home... Poor customer service is a big element of that too as we had no offer of food or drink between our scheduled and missed take off time and being left at a hotel 6 hours later in the middle of the night...0

EU delay compensation should be claimed from the airline.0

I think my policy offered £20! I suspect yours too would not be anythng like the EU compensation that you may be entitled to. You would need to check your policy re claiming on that as well as to the company. My uninformed view is that you might be able to claim on both as the EU claim is a fixed amount and doesn't relate to any specific loss. You might need to consider whether a travel insurance claim would result in future increased premiums.0 -
I contacted my travel insurers and they said I couldn't claim for the delayed flight but I could claim for expenditure incurred on refreshments during the delay, provided I had receipts. No excess to pay and won't affect my premium as I have free cover with my bank account.0

On second thoughts someone on this forum may be of the opinion that as you were not given adequate Duty of Care under 261 you can include this in your case.0 -
Well, I submitted a 4 page letter of complaint and a claim for delay and just had an email response back from Monarch saying it was "extraordinary circumstances" and the claim is denied. Where do I go from here?0

Post details on Monarch thread if you feel inclined after reading other posts. Stick to facts - if you want a rant there is a Monarch Complaints Facebook page .... https://www.facebook.com/MonarchComplaints0 -
Thanks 111KAB. I had commented on a FB page before but can't find it so have posted on your link for any help/advice from successful claimants.
I have also responded to their thanks but no thanks email including some 'facts' found on here regarding court rulings and ECs along with the duty of care matter which hasn't been acknowledged or considered so we will see what happens next eh!0
