I'm sure we will all recall how we always rubbished the very idea of peak oil happening in our lifetime.

    That is a relief.

I guess it doesn't matter then just kick the problem along to our grand kids.

I often made fun of the doomers banging on about this on here and HPC. As ever they get it all wrong headed. Even when it does run out nothing grim will happen, we will simply design a different future and oil will be just a foot note in our history thousands of years from now.

Why are you so confident that it will be hunky dory?

I haven't seen any credible alternative yet proposed in the time I have been shuffling around.

One of the comments on the link provided made an interesting observation (no idea how true it might be) that when oil was effectively flowing out of the ground 100 years ago, it took1 unit of energy to produce in 100. 1 unit now yields 5 apparently..

oil from the ground will run out at some point, but that dosnt spell the end of internal combustion, take bio disel for example there are many many things you can run a disel engine on including fat from the sewers! beef dripping and many nut oils, if we get our act together with more hydro and solar then hydrogen becomes a good option, the end of fosil fuels isnt the end of the world ;) but if we are to conserve what we have then places like the states need to get there act together. simple things like converting vegas to LED lights would help :D

I often created fun of the doomers knocking on about this on here as ever they get it all incorrect advancing. Even when it does run out nothing harsh will occur, we will basically style a different upcoming and oil will be just a feet observe in our record centuries from now.
