Bought car on ebay, seller sold it again!
Options
Hi,
Bought a car on ebay, picked it up paid cash. I've got a receipt, got the documents/service history/log book, got the new keepsers section of v5. I've insured it and been using it daily. I havn't got the V5 in my name yet as DVLA have a 4 week backlog.
Just logged into ebay. Seller has sold the same car to someone else (same pics as my listing/same license plate). I can see the listing in the history. Both buyer and seller have given positive feedback for the transaction. Seller is private and not a dealer as I went round to the house. Sellers ebay history has no other cars.
Phoned DVLA and they didn't seem bothered. They advised I could fill in v62 form if i was that worried but should wait a few weeks to see if my v5 turns up. What could be going on here? Could this be some sort of fraud?

did you buy it from a classified ad? could have had an auction running concurrently and had a friend doing some shill bidding to get the price up, then they just give each other feedback instead of the hassle of cancelling the auction, I've seen that a few times, and it's always been shill bidding, did the "winner" have a very low feedback?

It was an ebay auction, same as the one I won, and it wasn't running when I won the auction as I looked at 'sellers other items'. It started and finished after I paid for and collected the car.0 -

I'm worried they have taken my cash watch me drive off with it then kept the v5, sold it to his mate? Something like that?
They only had 1 key, for all I know they have a key, they know where I live thanks to V5, they only need come take it off my drive way and register the v5 in their name?0 -
Can you put a steering wheel lock on it ?0

Why not ring up the seller and ask? He can't have sold it again as he no longer has the car. maybe the eBay ad just rolled over somehow? Anyway the 'new' buyer is not going to pay for a car that doesn't exist so I don't think it's your problem.0

BTW I never buy a car with only one key; they cost too much to replace and program nowdays.0 -

Could be money-laundering execise - the seller had a few thousand pounds of money raised by criminal means, but now it's 'legit' money raised the 'sale' of the car to a mate???"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
