Will landline still be BT if we move to Plusnet?

Probably a stupid question, but my Dad usually sorts out the landline, and I don't really understand how these things work...
We're currently with Unicom for our landline - which from what my Dad tells me is part of BT, so our landline is still technically with them  - and O2 for broadband. We have NO intention of moving over to Sky, so we're looking at changing our broadband to Plusnet. However, as it seems to be cheaper to go for a landline-broadband bundle, I'm trying to convince my Dad to change the landline from Unicom. He wants to keep our landline with BT, but I'm assuming that as Plusnet is also part of BT that we'd still be renting our landline from them? Or have I got it completely wrong?

Unicom have nothing to do with BT other than being a BT Wholesale reseller. If you pay your line rental to them, it's a BT line.
If you rent your line from Plusnet, it's still a BT line. Plusnet are owned by BT, but run independently.
Either way, it's BT OR who ultimately own the line and fix it if there is a problem. So you'd do much better to bundle it all with Plusnet. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I just been Plusnetted fibre from BE and retained BT phone line .
No problem asked for MAC code from BE .
Sign up with Plusnet .
About two weeks later Plus Net set appointment for BT Openreach .Post out WiFi router .
BT OR arrives changes master socket fits fibre modem .
No internet for a few hours but BT phone still works .
BE send text internet disconnected .
PlusNet send text you are now live .
Connect WiFi router .
Back online with Plusnet .

Thanks macman and JJE
Hopefully this will help to convince my Dad to go with the bundle rather than standalone broadband. 0 -
£50 connection charge for Fibre with plusnet unless you take a phone package.
With O2 currently. But it looks like im out of contract for a long time. Had no offers from sky, In fact no contact at all.
Not happy about swapping my phone to sky. I prefer to stick to my old BT account. Its slightly dearer maybe. But no contract.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
You still have a contract with BT-but just a 30 day minimum term.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I have a similar question. Moving to a new flat where the landlady has stated we can't change the BT line, BT broadband is SO expensive and would rather go with talk talk or plus net, is it possible to go with Plusnet if we can't change our BT line?0

Yes you can keep your line rental with BT, Plusnet do broadband only though they do charge an extra £2.50 if your phone line is not with them.0 -
Taking your line rental from PN does not involve a change of line, it's still a non-LLU service (since they run on BT and are owned by BT).
There would be no issue switching line rental back to BT at the end of the tenancy (if required). No free lunch, and no free laptop

But the Landlady has stated that they cannot change the BT line.0
