  • Whats the best way of cancelling my TMTI VIP package before the first 30 days are up.
The company web site is unavailable and theres no answer when phoned.

Just call 01373 839990 for canceling and tell only your postcode, then ask for confirmation of canceling (by email or post).
Its take 20 sec to finish all story.
  • I purchased a phone from Carphone Warehousefor my 16 year old son in May 2011. I did not buy any phone insurance. Within a week TMTI had phoned my son to hard sell him their insurance and started taking monthly direct debits of £20 out of his personal account. He never received let alone signed any paperwork, and did not understand why he had no money in his bank account (obviously TMTI was nicking it).
As my son is only 16 I considered this is outrageous code of conduct and pursued TMTI super cover for insurance malpractice selling. All my emails to TMTI went ignored so I contacted the financial ombudsman.
We cancelled the direct debit with the bank so I wait to see what will happen. These guys are total xxxxing sharks.
  • There is much about the last post that is not possible, unfortunately.

TMTI do not sell insurance. They do not make outbound sales calls to customers. They do not take monthly payments of £20.

The paperwork was indeed not signed by the gentleman's son; it was done by him when he signed the contract with carphone warehouse.

The 30 day free trial of the gadget helpline comes as part and parcel of the the contract he signed. As is, no doubt, a two month trial of a separate insurance company. This is a non optional extra and part of the contract he signed. If he bought it online, it would be clearly laid out in the purchasing steps. If done through a store, the staff should have made it abundantly clear that he was receiving these two non-optional add ons, both of which can be immediately cancelled with the respective companies.

TMTI would then have sent a welcome email to the email address sent on to them by the carphone warehouse, outlining the policy and its cancellation process. It may well have gone into the spam filters of the customer, but it would have been sent. No email address; a paper copy would have been sent to the account holder of the DD set up with the carphone warehouse.

If the policy had not been cancelled within the 30 day free trial, a DD payment of between 18-21 pounds would have been taken, which would have covered the next six month period (charged at roughly £3 a month, on a bi-annual billing cycle).

This is how TMTI work. It is above board, legal and part of the phone companies terms and conditions. People who do not read the contracts they sign, or never check their emails - both inbox and spam - have, in the end, only themselves to blame if they don't check what they are buying at point of purchase.

More specifically, for the gentleman above, when he says he will "pursue[d] TMTI super cover for insurance malpractice selling", he is on a hiding to nothing as, unfortunately, TMTI simply don't sell insurance and are nothing to do with super cover.

The payments from his sons account, if taken after he was sold insurance by a third party, are nothing to do with TMTI, who are a technical support company who work with HMV, QVC, Sainsbury's, Vuzix and Intempo, to name a few, and are not in the habit of defrauding children.

It may be a case of crossed wires, but this is not TMTI's fault. If he simply phones 08444 994 600, the TMTI admin team will check for any active accounts in his name and cancel them for him straight away.
  • I agree. Just cancelled another free trial with them this week. Since I order lots of contracts it's a regular event and takes seconds. Someone can't "nick" money if you agree to accept the service for a fee.
  • i have recieved my bank statement and noticed the dd for tmti. not having a clue as too who or what this is. i rang my bank only too find out this has been taken from my account for the last 5 years every 6months. i no i should have spotted it before, but this has escaped my attention. my bank has advice me not to cancel has i may be charged again by them if tmti try and claim their next payment. i have been trying to phone tmti for the last 3 days on 08444994744 (if this is even the right number) only to be recieved with this line is busy please try later. i never asked for this insurance i have never had phone insurance,as i change my phone regular. the phone that this is against is more than likely in a childrens toy box. how do i get in contact with this company. can i get my money back. surly this is fruad or something having never given permission to take money from my account apart from the phone bill. my hiusband is livid please help.
  • yogibearbooboo22 - Please read my post from 14/12/2011, it will clarify a few things for you!

In short; call 08444 994 600 any time between 9-6 Monday to Friday (10-6 Saturday) and someone will cancel it for you straight away.

" i never asked for this insurance i have never had phone insurance"... It is not phone insurance, and it will simply be an aspect of a phone contract you took out a while ago that you may have overlooked.

"can i get my money back. surly this is fruad or something having never given permission to take money from my account apart from the phone bill."... You - or your husband - gave permission when you took out the contract with the online phone company you purchased the phone from 5 years ago. As I said, please read my previous post for clarification. The bank can try an indemnity claim for you, but if you took out the contract, and failed to cancel in the 30 day trial period, then the account will most likely not be refunded by the bank.
  • Don't call the premium rate line (08444...) to cancel, that's exactly what they want, they will keep you on hold unnecessarily and it'll cost a fortune. Call 01373 839990 to go through to the reception and they will cancel it for you or transfer you. This company suck for so many reasons, don't make them richer! Check out SayNoTo0870 websites for many geographical phone number equivalents to 0870/0845 etc..

Yeah I almost forgot about this, it was in my email (did a search for TMTI) and found the details and canceled it on line after googling TMTI. Hope it's gone!
