Cooling off period

Hi all
Recently took out a bt package of Phone, Tv and Infinity, today is the 14th day. Have just found out I am going to be moving house and they can not provide infinity at the new address. Is there a cooling off period I could cancel all my products? I took out BT for infinity but they can't provide it and Virgin can!

VM can't provide Infinity, that is a BT only product. VM can only provide cable service.
You can cancel up to the day before the service goes live. Otherwise you are liable for the full contract term, as you subscribed at the current address, not the new one.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Sorry I meant Virgin media could provide better speeds with fibre optic.
I just feel like its unfair to move and not be able to cancel the infinity as I signed up for this in particular, when I move, they will no longer be able to provide this service.0 -
Is the new service live? If so, the minimum term is confirmed.
All things being equal, VM's cable BB is considerably better - neither are 'fibre' - but Virgin uses Ethernet copper, BT still use xDSL.
From what you say, your circumstances have changed, but any termination then becomes a cost of moving.0 -
Ok thanks
Have spoken to BT options team who kept saying to take standard and Infinity may be available soon, I then said but Virgin Media can provide fibre optic so he then said to call the exceptions team tomorrow morning and see if they can cancel my contract for Broadband as they will only be able to provide a service that I do not want.0 -

It may be 'unfair', but it's your choice to agree a minimum term contract and then move, and therefore a full ETC is payable if you don't cancel within the cooling off period.
FTTC may well be available at some future date at the new address, but the date cannot be guaranteed.
As Buzby points out, if it's not yet live then you can still cancel, but if you delay you'll be tied in and liable for a huge ETC.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi just to update
I spoke to exceptions today and they have said I can cancel the whole deal as I need the broadband for the tv so it will no longer work and I can cancel the broadband as they wont be able to provide the service that I signed up for. This will be with no charge.0 -
It's nothing to do with needing the broadband for the TV. As long as you are still in the cooling-off period then you can cancel for whatever reason you wish-or give no reason at all.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Just jumping on this comment and sorry for hi-jacking, was speaking to BT and they have told me the VM cable service is quite bad a traffic mangement and you do lose alot of speed during the peak times?
is this the case or are BT trying to pull my leg?0 -
Yes, it can be traffic managed and overloaded in certain areas, but probably no more so than BT's contention issues.
Would you really expect a BT rep on commission to give you an unbiased opinion on a rival service? No free lunch, and no free laptop

i know i fell for it
if you had a choice would you choose ADSL from BT package or would you go with VM 60 XL package?
by the way i live in central london (if it makes any difference)
also if i called up VM and asked them to re-activate my account and ask for the same package and price what are my chance of getting the same package?0
