    - I asked within search for a certain date +/- 0 days,
    - The results still gave me +/-3 days unfortunately (should'nt have trusted it)
    - Just to change the outbound flight to the correct date I put in, it's an extra £240 between us all, I would also need to change the return flight.
    - I booked through onthebeach and they will attempt to do what I've done with changing dates so will probably be screwed either way.

Ultimately, I think it's fair to say I'm not going on holiday and I'm going to have to pay for the flights.

    Also

I specified Birmingham-Malaga then Malaga to Birmingham in search.

It gave me Birmingham to Malaga then Malaga to EMA.

A pathetic search function. I agree more attention should've eben paid, but isn't a search function there to search within a criteria? :(

This does not change the fact that you chose the flights - you were given very clear options and you chose the wrong one. If I search on Amazon for an item it will give me what I want and those that are close matches - it is up to me to select which I want to buy.

You have acknowledged this is your own fault, I'm not sure why you keep trying to backtrack (possibly because voyager is giving you false hope). What you need to do now is see how you can remedy the situation. What are the dates you have booked, and what are the dates you wanted? Is EMA not an option? It is only an hour from BHX - not ideal but if it means you still get a holiday would be worth it?

Your analogy is not relevant. The OP did 'look inside', they had all the information in front of them.

Edit to add: Also, you cannot compare an advised sale to an internet only purchase. Your analogy is comparable to the OP going into a travel agent and the agent booking the wrong flight. For an internet purchase, there is a reasonable expectation that the buyer will check the details of their purchase before committing to buy.

I think the analogy is relevant... we could argue about whether the situation is like putting the jeans into a clear bag (so he could immediately have seen the colour if he had bothered to look) or into an opaque one (where he could easily have looked inside but didn't bother to do so), or perhaps like the customer failing to check the label and so not knowing that they were the wrong size.

But the customer, presuming he has paid by card, cannot cancel the card transaction. He will have to go back to the shop and deliver the wrong pair.

If it is a straight exchange, he will get the right pair. If it cannot be exchanged, he will get a refund on the same card that was used initially. The original payment will be booked and a day or two later will be cancelled by the refund. If there is a difference in price, the original amount paid will be refunded and the correct price will be charged to the card.

If the shop refuses an exchange, the customer then has recourse to the card company.

Shall we cut the jeans debate, it's not helping and is futile.

OP, is it the dates or the returning airport that's the issue? If just the airport, surely 30 miles isn't too much to overcome? If the dates, why are you totally immovable ob them, work commitments?

Basically, I'll be doing all I can to fix it rather than pay and not go, that's daft

I know it doesn't change that fact. I know I was given clear options and I know if you search Amazon etc and so on.

I am asking if there were options. Obviously not.

It's not an option because we can't get the time off for the selected dates and changing the price incurs charges I can't meet.

It's cheaper for me to cancel, pay the cancellation fee and rebook than reschedule the flights funnily enough.

That's often the way with these things, but you haven't answered my question; what's the biggest problem, dates or returning airport?

I once organised a mates stag do, and put the same name down twice on the booking with Easyjet (3 different "Stephens" and I repeated one). Cost me £40 for a name change made the day after, and that was 10 years ago!

Sorry. Both are the problem. We can't get the time off work and if we get a car to Birmingham, we can't get it when back from EMA. Either way, the airport doesn't matter since we can't get the time off anyway :)
