  • Good morning, Greying & chums,

Thank you for your thoughts on my stew...I must confess that I didn't pre-fry anything as I was short on time and didn't want to risk setting the crockpot on high when empty in case it cracked it. Had it been a metal pan I probably would have. I guess a lot of flavour in slow cooking comes from the meat but, as I don't eat the stuff, I didn't put any in. The herbs were dried ones and, I guess I could have put them in too early. Next time I'll try tomato puree, I think. I can confirm that the slow cooker makes a wonderful (close your ears, GP :D ) rice pudding! It filled the kitchen with a wonderful smell and by freezing some kept OH very happy for several days :rotfl::rotfl:

I look forward to other tips emerging on this thread with interest :)

BTW superdave yes, that fly should be in bug heaven by now

Oohh good ideas for Slow cooker. I just got my OH one for Christmas (he doesn't know yet...) as he is always complaining that he'd like to eat better but doesn't have the patience for standing over a pot so I figured slow cooker might encourage some hearty meals in to him when I'm not staying at his! Good tips so I can sound like I know what I'm talking about :j

That curry the other night looks beautiful Greying.

I only have 3 presents left to get. 2 secret Santas and one for my Grannie. One secret santa we are doing in January so will be bought in the sales and my Grannie will be getting some nice wool as since my Granda died she has been knitting more to keep herself busy but would never *treat* herself to fancy wool. Hoping to get a nice knitted jumper out of it hehe!! But other than that planned spending there will be no more Christmas presents items purchased!

Hope everyone is having a nice and peaceful Friday :)

    Hey! Hey! Good Morning :hello:

    How is everyone?

supersaver - I didn't know Sainsbos did differential pricing either, but it seems to me that they are just *a few pence* dearer on *most* things that other supermercados. And as they are the most difficult for me to get to, I don't bother shopping there over much - and hence there is much  when I do :rotfl: However, I did like that there wasn't chrimbo music screeching outta the pa system so :T Sainsbos (probably a junior hadn't turned Bing's 78 over or summat  #showingmebleepingage)

little_sweetie - I don't mind you mentioning rice pudding done in the slow cooker :D I was thinking that Frugal Queen mentioned doing baked potatoes in the slow cooker too in a recent post, so they are very useful :D It's just I think that they are possibly better for the slow cooking of meat and meat stews/casseroles rather than veg :( Apart from root veg, the trick to veg cookery is usually the faster the better...... However I am always up for being proved wrong and told I'm talking tosh, so if anyone knows of brill veggie slow cooker recipes, then 'bring 'em on' :D

Upsidedown Bear - I remember being put out that we couldn't *afford* one of those 'proper' horses (all my friends had them) - I had to make do with an up turned yard broom instead :(:rotfl:

Beanie - how are you? Are you well? Is your DS back from Uni now?

kem10 - Baked tatties! In the slow cooker - Frugal Queen has definitely blogged about it recently, and there are possibly instructions over on the GC thread on OS.

I love that you are buying luxury wool for your grannie. I think that is really thoughtful :D Thankfully, our Christmas pressies are done. Only do for the youngsters and we've had one tip over the 'reached the age of 21' stop line, so less to sort this year - and as it is monetary gifts, then it hasn't exactly been onerous in terms of slepping around searching for the perfect gift :D

Well, I snagged a NSD on Thursday - made easy by the fact I forgot my purse :o :rotfl:You'll be pleased, but not surprised to learn that we did not keel over with malnutrition in the meanwhile - as there was, in fact, nothing that we needed. Yesterday I did spend, but only on a few bits for Christmas, and I also dropped on some YS'd celery in mrW - :j:j:j Just what I needed :D

Dinner on Thursday night was greek casserole, made with sprouts - OK, but possibly not to be repeated :( As it happens, there is no pictorial evidence of this wonderous dish, as I misplaced my camera..... only to find it yesterday...... by the computer...... where I'd left it  #can'tseeforlooking

Dinner last night was pizza and fries. I had decided as a *treat* to get some oven chips for a dish later in the month. As it is aeons since I have used oven chips - and that was in the very early days of them being available, I thought I would give them a 'test run'. I'm awfully glad that I did, as I'm not seeing much evidence of *treat* :( I know that when I make wedges, I can't tell you how many calories or fat is in 'me tea'. But I have to work on the basis, that we don't have wedges and pizza for every meal and that I will have to move in corresponding 'quickness' to ameliorate my 'splurge'. Bagged oven chips come with dietary info ........ For a 1/6th of a bag serving  I used 80% of the bag at least for 2 of us  And that yielded *about* the same amount of chips as we would have if I'd done wedges :o I'm amazed I can move this morning, and that my arteries aren't clogged up  I don't think I'll bother with bagged oven chips again...... :( And a funny thing that happened last night, as we were dropping off to sleep, I whispered, 'I love you' to DP, and he responded with a, 'I love you too........ [small pause].... and I prefer your potato wedges too....' :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: [True story :)]

    The pizza was a bit of a 'use up', I made it with most of the mini sweet peppers that I had got from mrM last week for 19p a bag (got 2 bags) and the last of the feta from the greek casserole. I also used whey from my paneer making in the pizza dough. Picture here;

Tonight's meal will lean on the curryish side of things, although it is not strictly a curry - soz Mr rtandon :o

Right, well, I'd better move and run 5 laps of the golf course to make up for eating so many oven chips last night..... *sigh*

Have a good day, one and all.

Thank you so much for popping by, reading and commenting. Please know that I appreciate it - very, very much :D

    See y'all later.
