    Aw now hun, nowt earth shattering. Every other Friday night is pizza an' wedgies :D Saturday night is - especially since October - fast becoming Saturday is Strictly Curry Night :D And you are so right about the eggyplant :D 'tis Memorygirl's bhuna recipe - so 'tis lush :D

    I'm really hungry. We went to the greasy spoon for a chip butty for lunch :D But then we went on a HUGE walk (all urban) over to the industrial area to see about some hooks to hang the bike rack on. We came back a different way and were marvelling at the wildlife - even on the edge of *industrialness* A group of goldfinches were clearly having a *domestic* in a hedge - v. funny :D And we saw a couple of boo-ti-full Robins - and their song........ aw! Cannae be matched :D I realised when I got home, all i'd eaten today was a chip butty and 2 digestive biscuits.... hardly balanced eh?

    I'm away to plate up us tea. Then DP and I will be watching a film off of the recorder thingummy :D Oh, also I have now fashioned the curtains to cover the front door, so Greying Towers is currently a little less draughty :j

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    a chip butty 'treat' :D

    long walks with loved ones :D:D

    wonderful sights of nature (clouds and birdies) all for free....... :D:D:D

    Thank you so much for dropping in, reading and commenting - you know I appreciate you, right? Right? :D

    See y'all in t'morning :D

    At least DP is willing to do things. I went on a week long course when I was pregnant with DS2 and had to take DS1, who was then about 18 months old, with me. The journey there was difficult and there were some problems during the week (long story) but I had asked that whilst we were away my partner should pull the furniture away from the sides of the room and u/c and gloss the skirting boards - thus avoiding paint fumes for me and the toddler (still developing his immune system) and avoiding toddler fingers on newly painted surfaces.

    When I got home on the Friday night (with a week's worth of washing to do) I found that he had not done the painting but instead had started to take down the books from their shelves (2 alcoves and another similar space with floor to ceiling shelves) and pack them very badly in boxes in the middle of the room - I hadn't intended painting the whole room, just to get the problematic skirting boards out of the way. I also had to do the washing as we were all away for the weekend.

    I spent Friday night re-packing the boxes properly (could fit loads more in) and carrying them up to the landing as the job was too far advanced to turn back. Partner did end up having to help my mum paper the ceiling as I couldn't do it and then I remember me and mum papering the walls before I rushed off to an ante-natal appointment. I also have the photos of me up a ladder putting the books back when I was even more pregnant - he could take a photo but not help with the books.

    Still in the grip of lurgy today but I have made onion soup and turkey stew and have broken into the 'Christmas drawer' as the lemon sorbet (lots left) also helped my sore throat.

  • mothernerd - you're right - so right :D DP is a tippity-top, top-notcho fella, and [STRIKE]he's lucky to have me[/STRIKE] I'm lucky to have him ;) But organisation and gantt charts ain't his strong suit ;) But 'tis mine, and with a willing [STRIKE]slave [/STRIKE] worker, we make a good team :D For which, I remain grateful, every. single. day :D:D:D

    Good for you treating yourself to the sorbet - I hope that you feel better soon. How is progress post-op? Are you finding it easier? I do hope so - sending you healing vibes, hun :D

  • I'm having a 'using up' dinner as well today GP. Also stuck with lurgy so I just don't have the heart to undertake great things. I've got homemade tomato, chilli and mixed pepper sauce, pasta, and roasted sweet potato with grated cheese. Both the pasta sauce and the potatoes had to be cooked so this was my best option bizarre as it sounds. Yummy too!!

    I'm currently prepping a magical 'Christmas shop' list online. Once I have figured out what things epitomise Christmas in my household I can figure out what it will cost :) Hopefully less than the £100 put aside.

    Have a good night my dear :)

  • Good Morning :hello:

    Bah to you having the lurgy Lilty - you work hard enough without getting dragged down by that :( Use up dinners are the best - they nearly always turn out as yummy as those meticulously planned or which use 'expensive' ingredients :D

    rtandon - I am laughing with you, as I find that little story v. funny :rotfl:

    Dinner last night was indeed a curry plate :D We had Memorygirl's Aubergine Bhuna, lentil dhal, rice and green beans. Normally, you incorporate the green beans into the curry, but I was just craving something 'fresh', so I decided to just have the beans steamed on the plate - as a flavour/texture contrast. Picture here;

    013_zps18ce0ceb.jpg

    We sat and watched B3n F0gle's prog, with a couple of 'preppers' who live in Utah. Mmmmm, is all........... Then we followed that up with a couple of slushy hAllmArk 'type' Chrimbob films, where everything turns out right in the end :D

    So second Sunday in Advent, 7th December. The theme is apparently 'Peace'.

    We all wish for peace. Conflict and peace are two words that you hear on a daily basis in the news. Peace talks to end conflict. Peace threatened by conflict. As one single human being, I don't feel that I can do much to bring about peace in certain conflict zones around the globe. But I was just reading an extract that put forward the viewpoint that peace can also be brought about by changing your mindset. Changing your point of view and taking action to bring about change in yourself.

    So today, I am not going to think about all that is wrong about Greying Towers. Today, I am going to (in the words of the 1970's Children's prog 'Why Don't You') turn off my computer and involve myself in something practical that makes a difference, achieves a task we have set ourselves, and gives me peace of mind once it is achieved. Now, that is something, I can do :D

    See y'all later.

  • Good morning, Greying, and chums :wave:

    I have been in a whirl over the last week or so and have only managed to dip in and out of the thread :cool:

    My beloved little car had a bad experience. DH was driving us back from a day out in Worcester (a really lovely Christmassy day) and he was only driving because he constantly criticises me when I drive as being too cautious. Anyway, a few miles from home he went to overtake a van. In a split second I saw something in the road, wood or metal I couldn't tell, well he hit it with a terrible metallic thump. We stopped, of course, but could see no obvious damage. By the time we got home the oil light was on and next morning revealed not a drop of oil and a hole in the sump :( It cost £312.62 to repair.....:shocked: At least nobody was hurt (just our savings :cool:) All he said was " I wish you had been driving. You wouldn't have overtaken would you" erm... nooooo...

    At the moment, GP, I'm with you in that I have to change mind set to get back on a peaceful even keel. I refuse to watch the news because it's so depressing at the moment and there's not a single thing I can do to put the world right. I am taking part in Streetbanks Reverse Advent challenge by trying to give away one thing a day. At least that will do some good for someone else, albeit a tiny thing.

    Last night's curry looks wonderful. DH came back from work and wasn't hungry :eek: so all I had was a cheese sanger. I had planned on making curry too..... I should have popped round to yours :rotfl::rotfl:

    Hope you have a lovely day. Don't work too hard x

  • Just wanted to pop by and leave this quick microwave chocolate cake in a mug recipe.

    I've just made it for DD as she was having a chocolate craving and we had no chocolate at all - not even a biscuit.

    It came out great - but I did read the comments underneath it with an improved method so will try that next time.
