  • Just chipping in with supermarket Christmas song issues... Mr S also had music on very loud.. and it was hymnbook Christmas songs. Awful flashbacks to my CofE Primary School. Did wonder how they managed to be so non-PC in this mad world we live in. Maybe the other side of the tape was more welcoming for all denominations. Here's hoping for a bit of Mariah when I next wander in for the YS aisle ;)

    Good Evening :hello:

    Gosh, I'm late aren't I? Got carried away with cooking and then we watched August: Osage County - good film, brilliant acting, but not an easy watch.......

    Anyhoo...........

    Beanie - ta luv :D

    Rtandon - ah ha! That's easy, I have a set of 'poaching rings' - I suspect you are supposed to poach eggs in them? And they stay round??? Anyway, they are about 31/2 ins round and 11/4 ins deep, or 8.5 x 3cms deep in new money. They are what I use to shape 'chunky' burgers, tattie cakes or..... cheesecakes...

    Lilty - I'm afraid Miss Mariah was on when we entered the store - I'm not seeing the improvement...... :rotfl:

    I got some YS'd bay leaves from mrW this afternoon - we will have bread sauce this chrimbo tiny tim :j I called in at the small greengrocers, as they had celery for cheaper than mrT (and it was british :j). I am officially spent up for the week now! Must remember that December is a 4 and a half week month :(

    I then set about some cooking. I have made banana cake - got a load of YS'd bananas in mrM this morning. I also made some HM veggie 'sausage' rolls - the filling is what you'd make bean burgers out of, and I cheated - the pastry is some all butter puff that I got in the freezer shop, nearly out of date, 3 for £1. 1 roll makes 8 sausage sized rolls :D We had a 'sausage roll' (well, DP had 2 - he'd been chopping firewood all afternoon) and some apple and parsnip soup (I think it's a Jane Grigson recipe originally, but I always just wing it :o).

    I didn't take a pic of the banana cake, but as I had the oven on, I thought that I would have a bash at the 'easy chocolate torte' that In Need of Direction told us about. Now, as there is only me and DP, and we had no dinner party in the offing, I decided to make 'individual' tortes, using..... my poaching rings! :D I used only 1/4 recipe, and this was enough to make 3 little tortes (dimensions as ^ above). Boy! That recipe is a WINNER. So simple to make - you can make the ingredients as cheap or expensive as your budget - and cooks in 25 mins - what's not to like? Unless you have a nut allergy, as it does contain peanuts.... The only thing I would do differently - particularly if I was making it over Christmas, would be to add in some orange zest - YUM! Pic of my effort here;

    Yup, I know, a scoop of ice-cream, or a dribble of cream would have set it off, but I had none, and I was impatient to try the recipe........ :D

    I got my poaching rings from W1lkinsons - £1.99 for 2 iirc - however, you can pick them up in a lot of places, £land, h0me bargins, old-fashioned hardware stores etc etc

    INOD - you are an inspiration :D Thanks to you and Pippi for sharing your recipes/cooking tips and ideas so freely. THANK YOU :D But INOD - I really think we need to tell the folks over on the grocery challenge about this recipe - I'm sure dear Rosieben would have gathered it up in her butterfly net....... :D

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    Inspiration - INOD :A

    Perspiration - DP has chopped a lot of wood :D

    Anticipation - whisper it, we may be going gad about tomorrow :j

    Thank you so much for dropping in, reading and commenting. I continue to appreciate it - greatly.

    See y'all later.
