Hi GP,
Glad you're having a lovely break. The wind has died down here too, just as well really as one of the big trees is leaning rather badly :shocked:

Good Morning :hello:
Well, we survived our day out. It had some very good bits, and had some disappointments, but it was a change in scene, so that was something. The public transport actually worked out good value for money. I think when fuel/wear'ntear/parking charges are added up, sometimes the car doesn't win. However, this was a route that the bus went directly from A to B. Our trip on Sunday, for example, would have been impossible by Public transport of any description.
We got quite a good 'work out' walking to the summit of our walk. We didn't quite need crampons, and the world will be relieved to hear that we didn't attempt yodellingWe did however, have some lovely views, we were almost on a level with a buzzard in a nearby tree and we did get to kick through vast swathes of fallen leaves
We had a treat of a hot drink and a slice of cake in a cafe. I tried not to blanch when handing over £8.60...... But at least it was a quite nice experience. I had never tried a 'Blondie' type of cake before, and as this one was stuffed full of chocolate and nuts, it was never going to be cheap. I will look forward to having a bash at making them myself - although I'm never too good with brownies/blondies/muffins - I tend to over work the batter
Plans for today include DIYPainting
I may well be able to snag a NSD though, so that will be good
And much needed :rotfl:

Upsidedown Bear - loving these daily smilies
Dinner last night was stew and veg. We returned from our day out a little earlier than planned so I had time to make 'Three Sisters Stew'. This is a stew, based on the growing method of Pumpkin, Sweetcorn and beans that the Indigenous people's of North American developed. There are many different versions on the net, but basically, you have a stew that has those three ingredients in, and I like to make sure that tomatoes, peppers (green are surprisingly good in this dish) and chillies (hopefully chipotle) feature. Although last night's version didn't have peppers in it, as I had noneI have used pumpkin in previous versions, but last night's version relied on Butternut Squash. I used red kidney beans, but I have made this with allsorts of beans, fresh and dried, including 'interesting' home grown versions. It's always good, always filling
I served it with steamed cabbage and broccoli, as I was craving some freshness after too much cake in my diet
Pic here;
Right, I have not yet had a cup of coffee. Off to remedy this
Thanks for popping in, reading and leaving lovely, appropriate smiliesYou're all fab
See y'all later.

Good Evening :hello:
Have you had a lovely day? Mine has been a OK, although I would be the first to admit that I have not achieved an awful lot. DP did get on with the painting, but as it was in a cubby hole, which one svelte personage admirably fills, there would have been no advantage in me trying to help him. *sigh*. I did, however, try to keep his tea/coffee cup charged and offer words of encouragement and pootle around fetching and carrying bits and pieces as required
I can gladly report that I snagged a NSD, as I didn't leave the homestead :j The budget is almost busted for this month, but we have treated ourselves more than we intended this holiday week, so at least we know where the money has gone to. And its a pretty poor do if you can't have a cuppa tea and a slice of cake, eh?
Foodwise, today has definitely been a 'use up' day. For lunch, I had a cheese sandwich, using a HM long roll and some of the last of the red Leicester. DP, who had been much more active got the remains of the split pea soup, which filled a small soup bowl, and then his roll was sliced, toasted and the remaining red Leicester was then melted on top - and the last of the HP sauce adorned it allSoup and toasted cheese sangers - does life get any 'richer'
For dinner, we used up the last of the stew from last night. Ordinarily, I would freeze left over portions to use another time. I would never waste it, but I'm not very good about eating exactly the same thing night after night - however, know that I know how lucky I am to have the choice in that matter. Making use of every scrap of every portion is very much in keeping with my ethos though, and I think that it ties in with what we were talking about a couple of days ago, in that it is the 'small things' that you do daily, that help you to reach your goal. Hence, we are fed and nourished, there has been no waste, and my palate is not jaded - might have been a different story if 3 sisters stew was on the menu for a third night tomorrow.......
Anyway, I was able to ring the changes a little by accompanying tonight's stew portion with some buttery mashed potato, some steamed carrot batons and the last of the cauliflower that I got from mrM. Picture here;
The stew pot is now empty :j:rotfl:
I must remember to put some beans on to soak for tomorrow's dinner, tonight. See, small thingsI must also work on my list of 'must do's' for tomorrow. We will need to go up the high street again, paying bills and what-not. DP hates that sort of thing, but it's got to be done, and he might as well do it now, whilst we have the time, rather than trying to shoe-horn it all into the weekends on an ordinary working week. We can get the car tax as well tomorrow. It will be a little early, but as it is the first time through under the 'new' system, it'll be better to do it when we have the luxury of going to the post office during normal opening hours, rather than racing to get there 2 mins before they close..... And yes, I know online application is a possibility, but we do like to try to support the PO, even though they don't always make it easy.........
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
DP's hard work - painting onto new plaster is tedious......
for abundant food, choices and variety
for being mindful of my actions - it'll help us get to where we need to go............
Thank you so very much for popping by, reading and joining in. I greatly appreciate it.
See y'all later.
