  • I know I am a wee bit younger than some on here, at 28 but ;) I have greys aplenty since the Jellytot came along! And frankly, I think they add a bit of sparkle to my otherwise 'brunette' barnet. In some lights I can see them shining and whilst the first one was horrifying, its friends are welcome :D

I never went out of the house without make up until a few years ago when I was very poorly and after an operation spent 3 weeks going places make-up free. My mum was more worried about the lack of make up than the op :rotfl:

Upsidedownbear I for one love your smilies wherever they pop up. I have a word doc dedicated to stealing them for future use ;)bat-smiley.gif?1292867553 see!

    Hello everyone.

I have been rushed off my feet with work for the past few weeks so I haven't been online much.

GP, I must echo what everyone else is saying. You are awesome. Everyone is awesome! !:j

    Glad you are here.

  • Good Morning :hello:

We're doing chores around the homestead today. Hopefully with the restorative *buzz* from yesterday still very much in evidence :D

I managed to snag a NSD yesterday - there wasn't anything in the gift shop that caught my eye (despite the best efforts of the assistant... *ahem*) and there was nothing in the produce baskets from the gardens to tempt me into parting with cash :(
And of course, the cycling was free :money: and we'd taken a pack up :money:

I don't think I'll snag a NSD today, and it is definite that I won't tomorrow if the weather holds, as we're planning another day out, but will need to pay for a bus ticket each.

Dinner this evening is Afghan Carrot hot-pot - which is a recipe that Muddywhitechicken introduced me to, and which has become a firm favourite. I shall also try to make the stew that is on the planner for tomorrow. Then we can enjoy a full day out (walking) and know that a meal will be waiting on our return.

It's dawned on me just how restorative yesterday was. I am so glad that I took beanie's advice and 'drunk in' the surroundings and the day. It was a long day, and we covered many miles. It didn't pass me by that our *simple* day, was, in fact, very dependent on us having access to a car and being able to afford the fuel for the trip. I can't imagine what the budget would have had to have been if we'd have had to factor in meals and admission charges...... So, I have remembered to count my blessings and be grateful for what we have and the wonderful experiences that we had yesterday :D - which were documented with more than a few pics (well, you know me :D)

I have again, read what folks have been kind enough to take the time to write and yes, I do mean YOU :D when I say that I'm giving things careful consideration :D

Well, I've not yet had a coffee, so I'd better put that right I suppose :D

Thank you - as ever - for popping in, reading and joining in. I hope that you know that I am sincere when I say that I really do appreciate it.

    See y'all later.

  • Smilie of the day.

  • Good morning, even if it is a wet and windy one, outside, If there is an echo on this post, it is me, echoing everything that has been said.
If it wasn't for you DGS would never have eaten 'scrabble' and l would never have made dahl or cooked with polenta. that's just for starters.
I too am very old and grey haired, sans make-up, or fancy hair. But..... my family and real friends know l am reliable and truthful, (with tact, too, if necessary)
l only give advice when l'm asked for it, and don't worry if they don't take it.
Since my late husband and 2 of my children were diagnosed with a disease for which there is neither treatment nor cure, l stopped caring about other peoples opinions of how l live my life, or spend my time/money, and if that bothers 'them' it don't bother me!
Now, the smell from the kitchen is warning me that something cooking is burning, so whatever it was, it is now the 'barbecued' version!xxxx
  • Good Evening :hello:

I hope I find you well Dear Reader? :D

Well today has whizzed and no mistake. We have, through team-work managed to get the 'boring but essentials' done, so we can tick that off the list :D It does mean that I spent money, so no NSD to record :(

It was so nice to eat a leisurely lunch with DP. It seemed more relaxed than even at the weekend - I've no idea why. Perhaps just down to knowing we were getting things done, and could take the time to sit down and eat? It was just spicy bean and tomato soup, with some mrL bread rolls. Nothing fancy :)

Having seen the weather forecast for tomorrow, I don't think that we will venture out on our walking trip. It seems that it may be a little bit windy, in the majority of the United Kingdom tomorrow, and then the weather presenter threw in the fact that there could be a risk of thunder and lightning storms. Not the best weather to be outside in the middle of nowhere if you don't have to be...... Hopefully though, our plans can be resurrected for Wednesday, which is seemingly going to be a much calmer meteorological prospect :D We have plenty of other things to do - it could become a 'life admin' day, although I must admit, looking at the arrows on the weather chart, there may well be a strong urge to pull the duvet up around my ears and stay in bed all day! :D

UpsidedownBear - thank you for today's *smilie* - I suspect that tomorrow, that little smiley will not know whether to hold onto the leaf or their hat! :D I did laugh though, when I was upstairs earlier, a little reddish brown leaf whooshed from left to right past the window. I thought immediately of your pic. See how you make us smile? Thank you :D

mrsinvisible - did you rescue your food item? Or has it gone to the great barbecue pit in the... sky??? (can you have a pit in the sky?? :rotfl:) Thank you for your wise words :D

Oh, I managed to watch a couple more episodes of Reza the tv chef in Vietnam whilst we ate dinner (off a tray, on us laps, as I'd managed to temporarily clutter up the dinner table - tut!) He was in Hoi An, which is in the central bit of Vietnam and there was some wonderful skill demonstrated in the food prep. The one chap was rolling out dumplings for stuffing. The way he did it was absolutely extraordinary, and so deft. He all but squashed/smeared it out (sorry, I'm not *selling* this, am I? :rotfl:) into an all but perfect circle, with a flexible bit of plastic, not much bigger than a credit card. He then put a filling in the centre and drew up the excess dough - the resultant 'dumpling' looked just like a daisy. So pretty. Then Reza moved to a town, just outside of Hanoi (I think) where virtually the whole town is employed making noodles. Interestingly, they needed to find an alternative to rice about 70 yrs ago, to stave off starvation and found that the root of the Canna plant made an edible starch that could be made into a paste from which noodles can be formed. Now I know that all the gardeners here will know the Canna - but they showed them growing in the fields, and of course, they were exactly the same as the plants that (surely) the majority of UK town and municipal councils have as a feature in their bedding displays in parks and town centres - I know ours do :D Really really interesting that there is 'food' to be gained all around us if we know how to do it (although, I must admit, before you think about half-hinching all the plants out the local park tonight, it is a mightily involved process - using lots of machinery and keeping 400 people employed........ :D)

Our dinner tonight was Afghan carrot hotpot. We really enjoy this dish. It is so simple, and yet so tasty! I used the little carrots that were in the bag of mixed veg from 1celand, having sorted the veg out into 'constituent' parts at the start of the month. I have actually got plenty of 'fresh' carrots, and so could have used them, but the frozen ones work well, and it frees up a little space in the freezer, so..... In addition, I used Toor Dhal rather than conventional yellow split peas. This was because I had them in the store cupboard, and it was a chance to use them up. They worked well and cooked in exactly the same amount of time, so it was an ideal substitution. I soaked the whole bag at once, so I will be making soup from the remainder. If you would like to make the hotpot, Sally's recipe can be found on THIS blog (scroll down to find the Hotpot recipe/instructions). I noticed on Frugal Queen's blog she had used some mrT valoo carrots on the weekend, that looked like the small chantenay carrots..... don't know if they were. But mrAl often have chantenay carrots in their S6, so if you wanted to use smaller carrots, but wanted to use fresh - these could be ideal :D Pic of my effort follows - please excuse the lack of orangeness - I could get this shade, or 'satsuma' with the light/camera available to me. I figured this shade was slightly more appealing.......
