Hopefuljoy I spluttered at that woman!

But you are right, she is projecting. We would never say 'don't spend your money on xxx because xxxx', but I guess by just not conforming it is taken as a criticism of their spending choices without us saying anything.

There isn't a lot we can do about that really, I guess. You win some you lose some.

I have a couple of people in work who shop in Lidl and we share shopping tips, but I work in a very supportive environment. So I guess I'm lucky there.

    SSK1 :)

ps aww I was looking forward to joining the bog - I thought it would be some kind of MSE commune :)

  • Great posts everyone :)
Apparently though my biggest sins are that I don't go on expensive shopping expeditions for clothes and, wait for it,,,,, I never wear makeup!!!!!!

OMG neither do I !!!!! Hopefuljoy, take heart dear chum, my hair is grey too...so what....I'd be inclined to avoid this woman if at all possible. If not, our conversation would be about nothing more than the weather :D

Oooh, maddie, where do the years go?

Wow, GP, look at what you started :kisses3: I haven't been on here for about 48 hours, so I've read it all in one go. Its wonderful that you verbalised it, because then everyone else stopped to think ... and .... magic happened! You've made a community, you really have, the way Hypno's thread was, back in the day. And you've done it by being yourself, and posting what *you* wanted to post. Its lovely.

I love the pix of your food too - I don't pay attention to my food the way you pay attention to yours, but I love the passion you bring to it, and your willingness to research it.

And I've made paneer too! I used the instructions from another forum I'm on, and I too was horrified at how much whey I had to throw away. So its good to know it was the same for you.

Even on mse its difficult to belong sometimes: I've often felt a lot older than the people I'm chatting with (and thats another service the recent posts have done for me :) I'm 60 in a couple of months) or yes, I'm debt free and mortgage free - I felt sufficiently weird about another diary on dfw (pension-focussed) that I went to the mfw board - but thats how I met Goldie and Tilly, after all, so thats fine in the end. And I still come here :)

I think its great to sit back sometimes and think, why am I here? Mmm, because I like it and I learn and I contribute ... sounds good to me :kisses3:

  • Beanie very well done on the OP. We were both 59 before we were MF and did it by teeny tiny OP s over a good many years.

Isn't this a wonderful community? Caring and sharing :)

    :T Well done :)

OH and I were also not mortgage free as when we were 50 something :)

But like you, we started overpaying, and by doing this, we were MF before 60 :D

I joined the MFW board, and overpaid as much as we could afford. I tackled it the same as I had the other debts, at an earlier stage, looking at it as though every £1 makes a difference :D

Make sure your contract allows you to overpay though. Ours only allowed a 10% annual overpayment during the fixed period (though at the time I couldn't always afford that much). Once the fix ended, its days were numbered :p
  • As you all know I like posting smilies so I thought I could post one every day. Not for any reason, just because.
    Hope that's alright :)

    Smilie of the day.
