    Thank you for all the tips. Just thrown together a Sunday dinner (keep thinking I have used the last packet of the joints cooked for Easter then find another as a drawer in the freezer empties. Made leek and potato soup and cooked the remaining small potatoes (I have 2 biggies if I fancy a baked potato) in the steamer on top of the soup. Turned them into 3 dinosaur dinners (that's baked beans usually with cheesy mashed potato on top but used 2 of the cracked eggs and some milk and added black pepper and dribbled a little extra bean juice on top so the top will go crispy. One is very small so maybe an accompaniment rather than a full meal. Waiting for the soup to cool a little before blitzing (threw a handful of barley in earlier).

    I'm starting to enjoy nuisance phone calls - I haven't got a tv, don't read papers or magazines, only recently got a mobile phone (someone else's cast off) because on bad days it was taking me 10 minutes to get to the phone and not had ppi since 1987 (my husband was due to be made redundant and on checking the small print on our loan and cc agreements, was outraged to discover that pregnancy (DS2 was born in 1987) invalidated the insurance and it was classed in with alcoholism and drug addiction. Luckily the loan was only in his name (taken out before we married).

    The insurance only kicked in when he had been out of work for six months (I found work before he did) but we paid off our other loan with his redundancy money and let this one continue. After that he went self employed and again the insurance didn't cover us so I've never had it since.

    I also like putting the phone down and going off to continue whatever I was doing before they interrupted and then put the phone back after they have tired of talking to themselves.

    I tell them l know who they are, and that l know it is a coded message for my husband from his mistress, and l am not going to tell him you have called. Or that l cannot hear very well, but are they offering to sell me a fall out shelter? no? a box mangle? no? they soon go away.
    Come to think about it, l haven't had one for a while now.
    Waiting for my favourite cousin to come, we are going to go and look at the local shops' Christmas offerings, probably not buy, but get ideas from.
    Todays soup is/will be celery and sweetcorn with a little bit of bramley apple, and will be served with flatbread, courtesy of GP's recipe.
    Off to load up the slow cooker now, xxxxx

    Good Evening :hello:
    'Yo' GP and friends.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    SuperDave - y'all be making new folks stumbling across this thread think that it is 'hip and happening' round about these 'ere parts :D Bless you, I did laugh out loud on reading that :D

    Thank you all for your 'sales calls' stories. I suppose that it is a fact of life, but i'm having difficulty getting past the upset and confusion that they cause when they phone vulnerable people. And also, if you're 'waiting on the phone' for any reason - good or bad - and you get one of these idiots on the other end of the line........ Perhaps i'm just a bit of a grump today......

    Poppy_Golightly - thank you for dropping by :D

    mrsinvisible - great to see you *back* - how did the window shopping go?

    Have you all read the news from the OS thread? The board guide Pink passed away. As ZippyChick pointed out, a very sad day for MSE indeed :( BG's are pretty great people anyway, but Pink was a good 'un indeed. I spent most of my time on the OS board (before I became aware of the fantastic community on DFW - thanks to the wonderful Pippi and Karmacat :D) I didn't know Pink in RL, but much like Squeaky they become 'known' to you, as they make everything run so well, and now we've lost them both :( RIP Pink

    I didn't snag a NSD today, but the items I got were on the list, so no mindless spends :)

    I have changed the tariff that we are on with the electricity and gas. I should have done the whole comparison thingy I guess - but it strikes me that we (like a lot of folks) are penalised for being low consumers - particularly of gas - by having a s0dding standard charge applied. Most of our bill is standard charge and VAT - the actual 'fuel' is almost negligible! I've found out that a couple of companies don't charge it - but then for everyone that says X is a fantastic company that has slashed my bills, you get another comment telling you to avoid going with X at all costs. What to do? I was with the MSE checker thing, but lost details when I lost my 'junk mail' e-mail addy. Perhaps it is time to sign up again.

    I didn't take a pic of last night's meal. We didn't have what was on the planner, as the 'early start' with the motoGP meant that we had a 'treat' brekkie of a HM bread bap with veggie sausages and lashings of HP sauce - which was brill, but it would have been overkill to then have had toad in the hole for us tea......:D As it was, we had the remains of our soup from lunchtime (a sort of minestrone type thing) whizzed up, with some cooked beans added - to make like savoury beans which sat on top of a huuuuggggge baked tattie, and had some grated red Leicester cheese sprinkled over. Perfect autumnal fare, which we ate off a tray on us laps, whilst watching the dismal footy performance :(

    Tonight's tea ended up being brill. I didn't realise that this week is national curry week, so I make a new curry (supposed to be having it tomorrow night) recipe that I found on the internet and wanted to try. I made Cambodian Aubergine Curry - having found reference to the curry paste (kroeung) that is the base of the curry, and as I had to look it up, I found THIS recipe. If you like fragrant curries, with coconut and not too much heat, then this is one for you :D It also has the advantage of being pretty quick to make. It takes as long to make the spice paste as it does the whole curry really. Picture here;

    001_zps9c02262a.jpg

    The only thing that I did differently was to omit the fish sauce and I used veg stock rather than chicken in the curry and omitted the shrimp paste from the spice paste. It still tasted wonderfully flavourful. The lemongrass sticks were YS'd from mrW as were the aubergines. And I used ginger rather than galangal. Definitely a keeper of a recipe. Just what we needed tonight :)

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    For people who try to do their job 'right' - even if it isn't the most glamorous of tasks and praise is thin on the ground......

    That I knew of Pink, and the value she gave and the difference she made

    For MSE

    Thank you so very much for popping by, reading, commenting and joining in. Know that I appreciate it, always :D

    Right, whilst I'd like to crow that I'm so 'hip' that I'm away to - get down, the truth is that I'm away for a - sit down...... :rotfl:

    See y'all later.

  • RIP Pink.

    Hugs all round and thank goodness for MSE. And, whilst I'm sure OS don't mind sharing you, we're glad you're here.

    Greying, thanks for asking about the problems with Boots pharmacy.

    There's quite a saga growing around Boots the Chemist. I have had calls and emails from their Managing Director's office, from the General Pharmaceutical Council, and from the branch manager. There has been a "deep dive" investigation in the branch involving their Regional Manager.

    It is sport now that I've finally got mum's complete prescription, together with grovelling apologies from the branch manager thanking me for bringing the matter to their attention.

    The GPC visit the store this week, and will be reporting back to me on their findings. I'd recommend anyone having issues with any pharmacy to report the issues to the General Pharmaceutical Council. If issues aren't reported, they can't be fixed.

    I've nominated an independent pharmacy for future prescriptions, who are fast, efficient and friendly.
    What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

    RIP Pink, indeed.

    There's another forum I'm on where I've just become a mod, and its very weird, but there's an awful lot goes on behind the scenes, even on a small one like that. On here, I bet the board guides do a lot.

    Greying, I hope you're well otherwise - and that you had a nice sit down :)
    2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Good Morning :hello:

    Ahh, well. I stumbled upon a thread started by Pink. in 2004, last night after I left here. She was starting to make Jam, and was enquiring how to gather in enough jars to capture her produce. She asked posters not to laugh at her acquiring OS 'ness' so young, as she was in her 40's.... fast forward 10 years........ :(

    greenbee - chocolate! YUM! :D But who needs special permission to shove gorgeousness in your face?? :rotfl: It's for all time - not just this week :D Hope you are well :D

    Pippi - lovely to *see* ya hun :D

    Beanie :wave:

    satchmo - whilst I agree that problems can't be solved without someone raising the fact that they exist, how on earth, in this day and age with all the; 'accounting' 'recording' and frankly 'snooping' that goes on, can firms still get it so wrong - and probably for so long. The independent pharmacy sounds like the perfect solution. Good luck!

    Karma - True. As ever. True.

    Well, Tuesday here we are.

    I'm not sure what is for dinner, as I mucked me own meal-planner up, trying to be 'with the zeitgeist' of curry week...... see what you've started superdave...... :rotfl:

    So, whether I achieve a NSD will depend on sorting out the meal-planner - I'd better hurry up! If I do end up spending, then I'll get the TV mag too. And try very hard to salvage some ground in the NSD stakes tomorrow!

    Have a great day today - despite the weather. And for our Readers in the north, I hope you have nothing but pavement splitting sunshine, all day long :)

    Thanks for reading, commenting and joining in. As always, I am amazed and humbled by your continued support.

    See y'all later.
