  • inod wins best dinner of the day! I had chicken and green bean korma. Meh. Although I didn't cook it and that made it much nicer ;) I have to wear rubber gloves to touch raw meat. I've got sterilised meat marigolds ;)

I'd suggest making a huge pan of mashed potatoes, adding a beaten egg (or two) during the mashing. Then freeze portions in the shape/portion size of the dish in which you usually make your shepherds pie. That way you've got really nutritious ready made potato toppings.

Tip based on experience, freeze the portions on greaseproof paper before wrapping in foil or freezer bags. That way you can reheat from frozen. Not using greaseproof paper means you have to defrost the mash first as it sticks to the wrapper.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

    Good Morning :hello:

satchmo - that's a use of potatoes and eggs in one fell swoop! :D How are you? Are you well? Have you sorted out those pesky chemists yet?

supersaver - I'm whacked just reading your list! Did you get it all done?

XSpender - you're contributing too! Thank you for dropping in :D

little_sweetie - lovely to *see* you, totally understand about 'real-life' getting in the way - so thank you for popping in to see us all. We've got similar worries...... Not liking when the phone rings at the mo.......

If you have a go at making 'shaped' burgers (meat or otherwise) with the GC, I think that if you weigh out your burger mix to say, for example 50g - I know that it seems a faff, but actually, it helps, as you can scoop the mix into the mould and then the GC can concentrate on pressing the mix (gently-ish) into the corners (with a teaspoon) and aiming for a flatish top. If you shove unequal amounts in the mould, it'll be difficult to stop it oozing out over the top I think. My only caution with meat burgers would be (and I know that you know this) not to make the shape too 'tall and thin', otherwise the inside of the burger will be raw and the outside char-grilled! In one of Leanne's PDF's she makes a half veggie/meat burger. I didn't try it, for obvious reasons, but it may be a useful recipe for meat eaters.

And thank you for letting us know that our indoctrination of your DH into MSE ways has been successful...... :rotfl: Another chalk mark on the board - Yeeesssss! :T:rotfl:

UpsideDown Bear - 'upside down' scones - hadn't thought of them like that :rotfl:

Well, I'm a bit weary this morn - caught the 'red-eye' commuter plane back from INOD's dontcha know ;):D

I really should shift a tail-feather, as we've lots to do, but we must have needed the lie-in, as my eyes didn't open till 7.55am  I've taken DP a cuppa in bed, so I'll hear shifting just now.

In other news, Dear Jennifer, from the *Computer Maintenance Department* rang again last night. Must have sent their feistiest agent, as there was no messing with the gal. She announced forthrightly that she was from CMD; that they had my individual computer code (??????) and, 'would I turn on my computer, now, ma'am'. This was less of a question and more of a demand. So, when I said 'No......' with the intention of pointing out to Jennifer that manners cost nothing :money: and she could say please....... She cut me 'orf! :rotfl: I expect I shall be hearing from them again, as they seem to be quite insistent that I speak to them by phone whilst simultaneously switching the computer on......... If you haven't already twigged, this is a well documented scam. Please don't let these people have anything to do with your computer, they (apparently) kid you into thinking that there is stuff wrong, by taking you to a 'report' page, where lots of (genuine) 'errors' are listed, and then proceed to install malware to 'get rid of it'. I know that my parentals have had these sort of calls in the past, which has been unnerving and confusing for them :(

I nabbed an unexpected NSD yesterday :D Too busy :( :rotfl:

    Dinner last night was from Mr Ottolengi - Barley risotto with marinated feta. We've had it before, it is a relatively inexpensive dish, although in looking for a recipe to link for you, I came across one blog that had critiqued the recipe and they queried why there was passata and chopped tomatoes in the dish. I have to say, I feel the same and use either/or, not both. Last night, it was passata. I also cook the barley separately and then mix it in with the tomato 'sauce' - otherwise I think that it could be a little washed out, as barley can take quite a while to cook (the fresher the better, but we all know that if it's in a package, we've no idea which harvest it came from.....) I did use M&$ pearl barley, which claims to be a UK product :T The feta was from Ald* - not sure I've used their version before (their valloo brand), t'was ok, if anything, not quite as 'boingy' on the tooth as mrT and mrA versions...... Picture here;

    001_zps9da926e5.jpg

The green beans were from Ic3land. Not too sure I've done them justice in that shot - as I had microwaved them then let them stand for too long......so they carried on cooking :( My bad! Not the product's fault :o However, they were just the thing to 'lift' what otherwise can be quite a 'heavy' dish. I'd heartily recommend some sort of veg/salad accompaniment. Recipe is HERE and from an MSE perspective, I would say choose whether you want to use chopped tomatoes or passata. You don't need both unless you're stretching it to feed a crowd.......

Right, I'd better get to it. Sunlight is burning.

Thank you so very much for continuing to pop by, read and comment on this thread. Know that you are very much appreciated - always :D

See y'all later. 'Saturday is Strictly Curry Murray....' and we're still in it to win it......... :D

    Hi all

I don't often post but happily lurk and cheer from the sidelines:). I'm just popping in to say to Upsidedown bear that I hope she doesn't mind if I steal your wee freezing cold smiley - it is so me at the minute :). I'm also going to give the cookie recipe ago and will get ingredients today and bake tomorrow. I'm not a great cook but they look so delicious. Have a lovely Sat everyone.

Wow, the CMD phone call takes some beating! I did let Virgin have remote control of my computer one time, but I'd phoned *them*, not tother way round. Even so, it doesn't feel like a good thing :(

Hope your tail feathers are nice and shiny :):):)

I love feta and really fancy the risotto recipe. Would have to substitute rice for the barley to make it GF so a more standard risotto I suppose.

I'm on a roll this morning, lentil and bacon soup in the SC and chicken defrosting for chicken and chorizo Spanish rice tonight. We have a different nations food each week during XFactor season, a bit like your strictly curry. We don't always watch XFactor but we always have a special dinner.:)

  • Hi GP & chums

Unfortunately, GP, two of our neighbours succumbed to this scam. A couple of 72 year olds were persuaded to switch on and the caller took control of their computer, demanded £80 to be paid immediately by credit card 'to fix it' and when they couldn't do that (they have no credit cards) their computer was shut down leaving them unable to boot it up at all. It cost them a lot of money to get a technician in to sort it out. Another chap in his 80's actually paid them money and they verbally abused him and still put malware on his computer. These poor souls were too embarrassed at being taken in to report it to the police. I'm sure there are lots of cases like this. They picked the wrong number when they chose Greying Towers! :T:T:T These people make me so angry

Thanks for the tip re kiddy size burgers. I think we will probably play it safe and make veggie ones though. I have found some animal cutters in the drawer. Piggy shaped burgers anyone? :rotfl:
