Karma- I thought ST had wormholes in their galaxies - they had 'em in their ears too????? :think: DP didn't explain that episode very well......Stargate, Farscape, Time Tunnel, you name it
Worms in the ears belongs to an episode of original Trek, and then I think the 2nd film was a follow up - poor Chekhov had a worm thing stuffed down his ear by Khan, a eugenics experiment. I'm hazy on the plot
And was I the 'sweet'or the 'sour'
prompt that made you think of me over lunch??? :rotfl:
of course you were! Also inspirational :j

Think it's just 56- 4 years of walking and nearly all the food that comes into the house being carried on my back. When I was 4 my baby brother went in the pram, my other brother had a little seat on top of the pram, I was told to hold onto the pram handle and keep up. I have often been told about "little legs twirling like egg-beaters". As I grew so did my legs and gradually I outpaced my mother. For years I was always the fastest thing on the pavement, weaving seamlessly between slower pedestrians.
Until I was a teenager I thought 'T' (the next town up and then across) was miles away as we took a bus to get there (youngest brother was only a baby at the time) and we only ever went on a bus to get places like Blackpool and Southport. 'T' is actually about 4 miles away but cutting through the fields I used to do it in half an hour.
Once went to watch a marathon (to support a friend, as it was her first). Found it an utterly pointless exercise (never been built for running and in those days suitable sports bras were not available). The front runners made creditable times but if I had started at the same time as the rest and gone at my normal walking pace I would have beaten half the 'runners' and wouldn't even have been out of breath.
In the days when I still used a gym (up to about 8 years ago, when I was still heavier than I am now but walking about 3 hours daily and much fitter) at induction they would set the treadmill at three miles an hour, I had to tell them that I had just walked to my appointment at my normal speed which was still in excess of 4 miles an hour.
Now the same gym is only 4 bus stops away and I would have to catch the bus although at Christmas I went there to a charity "12 days of Christmas exercise session" which was being promoted through my once a week exercise class. After the warm up, the main session was like the 12 days but 12 star jumps, 11 burpees etc continuously. I had to have some exercises adapted but I got through it (fell over on the bus about an hour later but I had a full rucksack and I was still trying to get to a seat).
However despite all my attempts to get "better, fitter, lose weight" I have slowly run out of steam (and managed to wear a round bone flat and lose all the cartilage so that the bare bones are grinding together when I try to walk). Still I must be a statistical anomaly these days, never having had a car.
This operation should, provided I do all the things I should do (crutches for six weeks, being careful for 3 months and cautious for twelve) give me my mobility back and when I can walk properly again (although further than the nearest bus stop would be a bonus at the moment) I should start to lose weight again (originally lost 3 stone, then nearly another slowly and painfully but this last one has crept back on).
Must get on and stop boring all you lovely people. I have to go and paint the attic stairs. I put lining paper on yesterday. Really don't want to but need more than ever to get this house sold. DS2 was renting my old house but has moved out (well he has taken his clothes and big tv, loads of stuff still there. If I can fumigate (one rule I gave him was not to smoke in the house, grr), install the new boiler (tradesperson will do it, there is a limit to me talents) and get back there (town centre location so easy for library and town hall and shops) and hand over the keys to this to the Estate Agent I would feel so much better. Just have to keep plodding (thanks beanielou). Just think of one bit at a time, just going to do attic stairs before the light goes. Put the washing out because the rain stopped and the sun shone for about two minutes. Going now, finish off the remains of yet another paint tin - would burn those painting clothes if it weren't environmentally unsound.

Good Evening :hello:
Lilt - thanks for the Lidl voucher link. I'm sure it will be useful to a whole army of MSE'rs who are lidl shoppersAren't they having an Italian week this week/weekend? I always check on the grocery thread, as there are some good folk on there that always spell out each of the deals as soon as they are available. Folk are brill aren't they?
TizerCat - come on and join inglad to have you
I always use jumbo oats for stuff like that, as we have them year round (DP likes porridge for brekkie), whereas we don't always have bread. I find toasting them adds a little bit of extra nuttiness.
greenbee - haven't *seen* you for yonks. Hope you are keeping well?
Upsidedown Bear - thanks for posting the Ald* list. Was that on the grocery challenge thread? I'd like to 'thank' Butterfly Brain - as I think it is great that menu suggestions have been made too - mind, BB is great like that, but still, I'd like to press the thanks button
mothernerd - I carry alot of what we eat away from the shops by foot. By no means all, but certainly a good proportion of the shopping each month. And I think that if everyone had to do the same, folk would eat a heck of a lot less! :rotfl:
I can legitimately claim a NSD today :j
I have had another one of those calls regarding 'our records show a fault with your computer'. According to the answerphone they seem to have phoned 3 times already today. Persistent aren't they? Why can't Ofcom do something about those sort of calls?
I had a bash at the biccies that Pipster linked to ^. Thank you mum2one they ARE officially YUM. Picture here;
Dinner was Butter Bean and Thyme soup with cheese scones. Picture here;
The recipe was Lyndsey Bareham's, and you can find a version of it HERE The scones were Nigella's 'Lily's Scones', although the oven isn't browning very well and so I had to turn them upside down to brown, so they flattened a bit. Tasted fine though.
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
For kind natured sharing of information and offers on MSE
For widely published information on what is a phone-scam - what about the more vulnerable in society though?
For being able to make nice biccies out of a few inexpensive ingredients - nice to have a treat
Thank you for popping in, reading, commenting and passing on information to your fellow MSE'rs. Mucho appreciated.
I'm away to shout at grown-up chaps playing footy on the telly.
See y'all later.
